Café Clocher Penché - Quebec City, Quebec

A wonderful gem in the heart of Saint Roch. A little pricy but totally worth it, such an experience from beginning to end. The wait staff were absolutely amazing, so friendly and welcoming and at the same time top notch professional. Small bites but everything was delicious and beautifully presented, ... including the cute little cocktails. I wish I had more photos but we were too excited to try everything as it was served (except for the buckwheat endive salad and desserts which were a little weaker than the seafood plates). After explaining that we were sharing, we appreciated having the dishes come out in an appropriate order and the thorough explanations provided with each. This should be the goal post for any restaurant serving small portions at these price levels, and indeed we enjoyed this better than anything in Toronto. absolutely delicious and hoping to return again soon after our first experience. drinks were great. I really enjoyed the strawberry cocktail, it was a bit spicy and very delicious. as an app, we had the fresh cheese and bread. fresh cheese with the duck and artichoke was a heavenly bite. the beef dish ... was incredible and will be dreamt of for a while - smoky and delectable. the pasta dish was a nice, fresh and acidic contrast. the desserts left a bit more to be desired after the complex dishes prior but good nonetheless. the service was friendly and attentive. Delicious French fare in a relaxed and upscale vibe. There is no wrong choice. We started with the bread and mushroom butter and the scallops were perfect. Next, I had the pasta which was perfect -- and I don't even like red sauces! My husband had a fantastic Icelandic cod ... and we ended on the amazing creme brulé and macaron. All around 5 star experience! Our waitress walked us through the whole menu and helped us pick the perfect bottle of wine to pair with our dinner. The ambiance was relaxed and intimate. Service is perfect score, very friendly and accommodating. Food is delightful and full of flavour in every bite. And by the taste and presentation of the food you can tell the chef really care about what they do. I love watching the chef working at the open ... kitchen and it feels like I am on one of those shows on food network.
