Domo Sushi - Vancouver, British Columbia

I try to stop by here every time I'm in Vancouver. It's a great hole in the wall, family run spot. Not much to look at but very friendly service and huge fresh portions. The sockeye sashimi is amazing.

We stopped in at an off-hour between lunch and dinner, so we basically received personal service for our family. The sushi was absolutely delectable. Our kids, who are not huge sushi fans, lapped up multiple offerings. As others have said, the portions are enormous for the price. Visiting Canada for a work event and being by the ocean, we wanted to get some fresh sushi. Well, from the moment we entered the restyrant, it was our chaos. You could tell there were regulars in there on how the staff was talking, but service was horrible, and the ... rolls were defintilwt made different than any other sushi restaurant we had been to. From different sauces on traditional rainbow roll, even rolling the rolls correctly. It took them two times to roll my shrimp tempura roll and still fell part. The veggies in aide of the roll were soft and overall. This, food and experience, was less than desirable and had to go get lunch afterward. I'm a fresh produce guy, and the mango tasted from a can. Great service, crazy portions for the prices. Huge menu, loads of variety, made freshly and very quickly. Really nice little local / family-owned sushi spot. Would come here again every day if we weren’t flying home tomorrow; wish we didn’t discover so late in our trip.

I have nothing but praise to sing about Domo Sushi. I would rate 6 stars if I could. The best sushi restraunt I've ever been to for this price. We ate here as much as we could while we were here on vacation. I'm so fortunate we found them on ... the first day of out trip. Not only are their prices completely unbeatable and portions very large, but the food quality is stupendus. The menu is very large. There isn't much seating, but that's how you know a restraunt is good. Their udon soup was SO HOT so I had to wait a bit for it to cool down; but that would be good to order to-go because it would still be piping hot when you would get it at home. Their sushi plating was very pretty as well. They give you free green tea that is perfectly brewed. Their scallop quality was very fresh and sweet. The mochi was only $3 for 2 pieces and they were nice and large, very flavourful, just how I like them. The owners are incredibly friendly and the food came out very very quickly. They seem very familiar with their regulars that would come in and I love that. I wish we had Domo Sushi back home because they will be the thing I miss most from Vancouver. The area of town it's in is very safe as well and there is paid parking out front. I hope they are around for many years to come because I will be choosing my future hotels based on proximity to this restaurant. Read more
