Marutama Gaiden - Vancouver, British Columbia

Maruhachi is my favorite ramen place before it changed its old name “marutama”. This one is the Gaiden of maruhachi which means it has something different. I ordered the Torisoba which has chicken broth chicken chashu and not pork used. It has a different taste than the original broth but ... delicious as well! Nowadays they offer the original ramen i.e. tamago ramen and so on. But if you are going to try this place, you should try something different like tsukw-men or torisoba! Also I should confess that chicken chashu is not as good as original pork chashu and that may be why people only make chashu in pork. Read more

I loved their ramen! The broth was thick and almost creamy with tons of savoury umami, and the noodles were firm and had the perfect amount of chewiness. Unfortunately they no longer have the unlimited garlic chips, but it's a minor complaint compared to everything else. Their tsukemen was also very ... tasty, and I loved that they also give you free broth to dilute the strong tsukemen broth after you finish all the noodles. Great local ramen spot! Portions are good and all at a great price. The star of the show for me was really the curry though, it was sweet and a really good side to get. First time to try Maruhachi Gaiden today and we had a pleasant experience! We ordered Chicken Karaage, Tsuke-Men Ramen, and Kiwami (Shio) Ramen. Elegant and relaxed atmosphere in this ramen house. We were greeted promptly and had a short introduction to the menu by the waiter, pleasant demeanour. The ramen was very tasty and the noodles were a good consistency. The creamy chicken broth was delicious! Very clean throughout the whole premises including ... the spotless washroom!
