Poor Italian - Vancouver, British Columbia

The dinner wasn’t as good as it’s been in the past. We were there to celebrate a birthday, the service was not good had to ask for our server a few times. The quality of food was bland we have been going to Poor Italian since 2015, I ... even held two parties there for my kids in the past. Last night as I mentioned we were there for a birthday celebration, I brought a cake with me, never had a problem before, the young lady took the cake to put in the fridge at the end of the night she drops the cake in the container in front of me. And there on the other side of the table was the manager. Tell us why we can’t have the cake there. Honestly all I heard was blah blah, he must have repeated himself 3 x’s. I asked if this was all Vancouver restaurants he didn’t answer me. He said it’s on there website, I found it when I got home but hidden under the dessert menu. Please put it on your front page, I was very embarrassed for the birthday person and myself and he was talking very loud. They have changed management and I didn’t like the aura of the restaurant. I called a few restaurants last night, that are high end in Vancouver and all said I would be allowed to bring a cake for a celebration. I loved Poor Italian but I will not be going back, one service was horrible and food has changed. And the manager doesn’t need to speak to people so disrespectful. They should have come to me at the beginning of the night or when I gave her the cake. Read more

Excellent restaurant. The ambiance, 20s-40s music, and larger than life waiters are what absolutely liven up the place and give it the charm that we usually miss from other restaurants in van today. I highly recommend the drunken mussels. The mushroom pasta is excellent too. Finally I’d like to commend ... Johnny, Lubos and Lisa for being excellent help and being fantastic at their job. I have a great time with my friends having an amazing Italian cuisine. We just got the set menu from Dine Out Vancouver 2024! The starter come with Tiger Prawns & Bresaola Salad( shrimps are flexible and great done); Main meal are Branzino (The flavor of fish can range from mild ... and lean), Osso Buco(Lamb is tender come with tomato sauce and served over saffron risotto milanese) ,and Tagliatelle with Wild Mushrooms( Is one og my favorite !! Long Tagliatelle Pasta& Wild Mushrooms. is so tasty each of bite u can taste mushrooms, oil and white wine flavor) Dessert is classic Poor Italian Tiramisu. Read more

surprisingly good, price is slightly high as mentioned in some reviews . Enjoyed the food. But I see a development application perhaps the place is closing down soon？

Great taste! I tried their cheese toast and a couple pasta dishes with my husband. The server was very friendly and he s done awesome job for us. It was a bit pricy for me ($50 per person without drinks) but definitely worth to try!
