Mirchi - Vancouver, British Columbia

Mirchi is the definition of a hole-in-the-wall establishment. Don’t get me wrong, though. I have a soft spot for places like this. Just don’t bring a first date here. The waiter is the owner is the cook and he runs everything himself. He asked if we wanted our food to ... be mild, and since I had brought a child, I said yes. Unfortunately, even mild was too spicy for either of us. The naan was nicely crispy. The butter chicken was less sweet than other restaurants, which I like, but why is the chicken in every Indian restaurant in Vancouver all white boneless cubes? It almost looks like processed meat. It's a small and cute retro place on Granville St. They have photos of a lot of celebrities who visited the place in the past. We ordered mutter paneer and goat curry. The food itself tasted good but nothing special. The Mango Lassi was actually really good. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself was underwhelming at best. Not the cleanest venue, hot inside and just a poor atmosphere to dine in. I wouldn’t recommend dining in unless you’re not concerned with the atmosphere. The staff are ... friendly though and the food comes out at a reasonable time. The prices are about average. You can find value in the lunch specials which is really the one of the better things about this restaurant. Read more
