Had a great brunch here with friends. Food is tasty and fresh. They also have a small selection of bread and baked goods. Their sourdough is great. You order food and take a seat. A great Vancouver spot if you want to experience Vancouver vibes. Everyone was very friendly and ... respectful. Only downside is food can take a little while as it's a small kitchen. I’ve wanted to try Ubuntu Canteen since the beginning of the pandemic and finally got a chance as I was in the neighbourhood. It has a welcoming atmosphere and a few little nooks where you can find seating. Or, you can take some of their baked goods and food items ... to go. We were lucky and got in just before the big rush, ordering their French toast, some eggs and bacon and a few loaves and baked goods. Everything was well done and tasty. We loved this place! The vibes here are cozy, calming with all the greenery and fun. The service was wonderful. And the food is delicious! We’ve had the brunch, the takeout sandwiches and baked goods and drinks and literally all were so good. High quality ingredients with interesting twists. An unusual experience. It's a beautiful bakery, would no doubt be great for coffee—and then they (conceptually) transform into a fine dining establishment at night ... but you do still feel you're dining in a nice bakery. The food is prettily presented and tasty, but didn't hit the culinary heights ... of a Pidgin or Burdock for me, despite charging similar prices for their tasting menu. I feel like there was too much of too few elements, whereas for me the delight of a tasting menu is to have a small amount of complex dishes I would never be able to recreate. The risotto in particular felt like a bit of a chore to finish by the end. The service was polite and efficient, but I didn't feel wowed or welcomed, so all in all I'd rather be eating somewhere else, despite some good flavours. And I adore their ambition! My review is based on only one time in this place and more to come. Tasty, flavorful dishes, I wasn't expecting how good and enjoyable dinner this place is offering. Good Beer selection, Service is good, patio take you somewhere else far away from the city. Clean, small, good atmosphere. ... Bring your date y friends they won't be disappointed at all. Read more
