Really didn’t want to post a bad review of a restaurant but my experience here the other day was down right hard to take. This place has been around forever and is suppose to be a high end name brand restaurant but the food and service on this particular night was ... terrible. There were only 2 captains and a waitress serving the whole Chinese seafood restaurant . This isn’t a cafe! The attitudes of the staff weren’t great but how do you blame them, they are clearly lacking in staff Their scallops with wagyu beef was interesting, how many restaurants serves their wagyu beef with so much tenderizer that the beef doesn’t have any texture, you almost can’t tell it’s beef We ordered lobster and it was drenched in a soup like sauce. Let’s put it this way, we had more than 10 people on our table and someone took half the lobster home because no one wanted to eat it. I’m not going to go on and hope it’s just a one off for them. We certainly aren’t going back. I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation for its food. Unfortunately, I found the food to be mediocre (abalone & shark's fin soup). What was truly remarkable, however, was the exceptionally poor customer service. When I requested our waitress to take our order, she responded with "in a bit" ... and proceeded to unload dishes from the kitchen. We ultimately had to flag down a manager to place our order. Given my daughter's dietary restrictions, we asked if the sauce for one of the dishes could be served separately. The manager went to check with the kitchen but never returned to confirm or discuss the request. We flagged down a 3rd person to continue/complete our dinner order. Throughout our meal, the manager who initially took our order never returned to check on us or inquire about our satisfaction with the food. He even avoided making eye contact. Despite this poor experience, I still left a 15% tip, the minimum amount on their POS terminal. After spending $400 on this meal, I am certain that I will not be returning to this establishment. Food quality is excellent. I had many dishes from Chinese restaurants in Vancouver, this one seems to be of the higher quality! The quantity served commensurate with prices and seem reasonable to me. The quality of the food deserve the higher prices too. It's very clear to my taste buds ... that the beef served here is of higher quality. The tofu dish probably doesn't deserve the same price as the beef as the tofu dish only has a little bit of shrimp crumbs even though the tofu was well prepared and tasted very good. Overall, if you dine here, $30 per person would be my guess. Free tea and free dessert at the end was a pleasant surprise to me. Parking was a bit of challenge to maneuver but it's free for patrons. Though we live in Richmond with plentiful delicious good Chinese restaurants, occasionally we visit Grand Honor mainly for their shark's fin soup, the fried pigeon and sometimes the $238 deluxe abalone/shark's fin soup set for 2. Our visit today was disappointed and outrageous, with both the food and service. First of ... all, the dim sum came out warm not freshly cooked. Then, the fried noodles with shredded chicken was terrible. Chicken was blend and tough. The bill came out quite expensive $102 for 3. I paid with cash rounding up to $110. I know it was slightly less than 10% but given the noodles so bad and cash payment saving them 3% visa charges, should be enough. The cashier and the guy named Danny called us back asking for more tips. She would not let us leave until we pay the extra $2 to make up the 10% minimum tips. I asked if that's a requirement, she replied it's government suggestion. What kind of service is that! I thought tips are optional not compulsory especially with the quality of food provided. Been coming here for years when they were located on the ground level but now they are located underground which I guess is a good this as it is much larger. Dinner here was nice and portion seemed generous as staff here are friendly. Hopefully one day they can revamp ... the area as it does look a bit dull. Read more
