June 2022: Permanently closed. The family retired. November 2021: I believe the term "temporarily closed" to describe this establishment should be revisited. Perhaps "indefinitely" is more appropriate given the amount of time that has gone by. MAY 05, 2019: I firmly believe that tips are earned and not freely given as if a ... societal requirement to eating out. Sitting at a small booth across from the main counter and not five feet away from the coffee pot, my order of chopped steak and eggs arrives quickly on this quiet Sunday morning. And that is the last I see of my Waiter. Any hope of further service from him or other staff quickly evaporates. Pretty much like my coffee I might add. I eat my meal, read, watch the news on television and wait. I see the coffee pot make several outings from behind the counter and customers cups are refilled. Even the guy sitting behind me is delighted with being offered a fresh brew. And I mean sitting right behind me. But me? Nope. Not a drop. I even see, in dismal hope perhaps, staff helping themselves to the brew and think maybe that’s just what I should do but resist the temptation. Now I’m not an easy guy to miss. I’m not the type to blend with the décor but for some reason, today, I am invisible. Not once am I even asked if my meal is alright. Adding to my early morning experience, one customer is heard telling his Waiter to wake up. A second customer sneezes SEVEN times into his hands before handling the debit machine while a Waitress sneezes and snorts before serving. And so after one full hour of waiting, I stand, pay my bill and leave NO TIP. Happy Cinco De Mayo! I should have stayed in bed. *** Classic family run Diner that has been in business for over four decades with fair food for the price. Good coffee and the chopped steak is well seasoned. Booths and counter seating at the front with larger room at the back for groups. Polite, friendly service with a smile even on super early days when my own eyes are still blurry. Expect to get what you pay for. Medium rare steak is borderline hockey puck but a good size and two out of three over easy eggs ain't bad. Given the price, a scoop of peas or mixed veggies with the hot turkey dinner (or other such meal) would be welcomed. Clean floor and tables. Read more
