The Cave - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

TLDR: try it once for the ambiance, but utterly forgettable and overpriced food. Full thoughts: Have been curious to try this place for years, noticed it when driving through Saskatoon a few times over the years. Was excited to try it out. Neat and interesting themed restaurant, well-executed theme with lots ... of very private tables. Service was good, although we’d made a same-day reservation through their website, which apparently isn’t valid unless made >24hrs in advance (which isn’t stated). They weren’t busy at 8pm on a Friday, so we were seated fairly quickly. We had the perfect cozy table for our small group. Our server was prompt, thorough, friendly and attentive - zero complaints. But the food?!? For those prices?!? So basic and underwhelming. Greasy, not fresh. Prepared fine, but would not have been out of place at any diner or a truck stop honestly. My kids’ assessment (aged 9 and 13 at the time of our visit): might be a neat place to work, but I wouldn’t want to eat the food there again. My curiosity is satisfied. While I wish this long-standing establishment all the best in the future, I definitely won’t feel the urge to come back. Read more

The food was awesome. And the service was amazing. Very unique dinning experience. Suitable for any occasion. We will most certainly be back soon.

Liked the look and feel of the place. Gives the experience of being In a Cave.. my family liked it too.. but hygiene is a concern.. Water glasses and cutlery were not cleaned properly. I recently visited the cave restaurant and overall, I had a great experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was unique and added to the overall dining experience. The food was tasty, and I especially enjoyed the chicken souvlaki that I ordered. However, I do have to say that it was a ... little bit dry and could have been more juicy. Despite this, the flavors were still there and it was a good meal. The service was also great, with attentive staff who were always ready to help. The reviews threw me off at first, thinking the wait time and the food would be abysmal. It was okay. We actually had a reservation, so we didn't have to wait to be seated. The waitress took our orders and we got our salads not too long after that. My ... Caesar salad was good. The croutons were not rock hard, so it wasn't painful to chew, and the dressing was actually mixed in, which was nice because I didn't have to eat lettuce without dressing. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu with baked potato that came with sour cream, tiny meat pieces, and spring onion. It didn't taste bad. I finished the chicken. It was tasty, but a little overcooked. My husband had the ribs and drumstick, and he said the ribs were seasoned decently but a little tough, and the drumsticks were a little overdone as they were dry. Our other friend had spaghetti pot pourri, she said it was good and she liked it. The chicken and the meat sauce were sort of together on the plate, though, for people like me who don't like different food mixed, I didn't know how I felt about it. The restaurant had different smells. When we first got in, it smelled like spaghetti noodles. As we were walking to the table, it was a little musty. The smell went away when we were at our table. And as we were walking out, it sort of smelled like pool products, which we assumed was from the water fountain by the little bridge at the entrance.
