Mamie Clafoutis - Montreal, Quebec

My daughter took a dance class nearby during the winter and it was tradition for us to go there right after. However, I have been going there since around 6 years ago when it used to be a Mamie Clafoutis. The quality of the products have not suffered one bit, ... however. Going there is always a treat! I literally recommend EVERY THING, you CANNOT go wrong with whatever your order 🤤🥐🍰🥮 I do have to say that it is a bit sad that they have to put up signs asking people to respect them. This is a local, woman-run business, existing in a new highly gentrified neighborhood compared to since its inception. I *always* see the owner there. It is very clear that she puts her heart and soul into this. No, they are not the "NorthAmerican standard" (as someone below put it) of super smiley and friendly, but I think it is possible to understand the feeling of being overwhelmed trying to keep a business afloat while not sacrificing quality given the circumstances. The owner posts signs with negative messages all over the walls. If you stay beyond an hour, there is a sign that says that you need to spend 5$ per hour after that per person. Another sign that reminds you of when they close and that you had better ... leave by then. Who puts up a signs like this???!!!!! Stunning. A piece of advice : people go to a cafe for a restful and positive experience, not to read negative signs. This is unwelcoming. The food, which is actually good, is overshadowed by this negativity. Life is short. Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else to spend your money - vote with your feet. #### I just finished reading the owner’s comments. Also took the time to read others. A nastiness and a refusal to accept criticism. When you get negative feedback, you take it and grow from it. You do not engage in personal attacks which is a common thread in all of her responses. I like the spirit of this bakery and of course, the sandwiches and salads are good. Just found this place by chance and drop in at. Was lucky!

Had a gourmand here. It was good but not as special as people make it seem. Maybe I came in at the wrong time but the place was dark and smelled like ammonia. It was a saturday morning which is strange to have it seem so lifeless. Might drop in ... again just to be more fair maybe. Read more

Found this little gem on a long morning walk from my hotel in downtown Montreal. Loved it! Friendly staff. Clean. Loved the decor. Oh and delicious!
