Aunt Lucy’s Dinner House - Kingston, Ontario

Great Martini, but no draft beer! Food is very good. Atmosphere can be a bit claustrophobic with low ceilings and dark decor. The enclosed booths are nice for more intimate dinners: fewer interruptions from the servers, lower noise level, but a bit dark.

I'm writing to share what a truly wonderful dining experience my daughter and myself had this Sunday December 21st. We were celebrating my deceased wife's sixty-seventh birthday and booked the small dining room #21, just for a little more privacy. Firstly, our server, an English lady named Ann, ... was helpful, pleasant and very attentive. What a wonderful representative of your business! The buffet was terrific, hot, fresh, and of good variety. The atmosphere for our time there was outstanding! I cannot tell you how extremely perturbed I am that the meal I just paid $20.00 for was so absolutely horrible. I am going to break down the stars and review for ease of digestion (Very much unlike the meal from Aunt Lucy's). Server The server was great and was fast, efficient ... and brought exactly what everyone ordered. Food The food was horrible. The turkey sandwich I had was so old and stale that the bread fell apart when I picked it up. Broke right in half and was crusty dry...NOT what I expected at ALL. The soup was thick and not too bad but honestly not the greatest. Just not bad due to originality. Price I choked on the price of the...I use this term loosely...food. Speed Quite fast. It's almost like it was sitting in a fridge somewhere waiting to be ordered...Perhaps indicative of the quality... I'll just leave it at that. I ordered the roast pork, which was very thinkly sliced and very dry. A bit of gravy would have helped. But the waitress didnt at any time bother to ask me how the meal was- not even on seeing that i only ate the vegetables and left the pork and ... potatoes mostly untouched. . all she said to me was 'looks like you are done- want some pie' food was poor the service was awful...aunt lucys a lazy twit. Arrived for supper after a day of travelling and chanced on the restaurant as it was near the Ambassador Hotel where we had booked rooms for several days. We were seated promptly in a charming nook with booths, three adults and three young children 8 6 and 2. ... Waitress arrived with menus set the table for four only and we had to ask for additional cutlery and napkiins. We placed our orders and then the wait began. Bread arrived and milk for the children so they were able to eat some to help satisfy them until the food arrived. After half an hour had passed, the waitress came in to apologize for the wait as they had a celebration in progress that was taking a lot of time. (Evening of April 6). She assured us the food would arrive shortly. Half an hour and a bit more passed and food arrived. More than an hour after order placed. By then the children had eaten a lot of bread and finished their milk and hardly touched their suppers. My liver and onions was somewhat grisly and I left a substantial portion uneaten. By now we had three tired and cranky children who were upset that it was so late a swim at the hotel would have to be foregone because of the lateness of supper. All in all a rather unpleasant experience. If the staff had told us there would be such a delay, we would have gone elsewhere and returned on a less busy night. Read more
