Reviews for The Cattle Baron in Calgary, Alberta
First time... Won't be my last time. So good. My sister took me and it was the perfect place for just her and I to have a visit and have a great meal. A++
For the price, extremely disappointed. Had the 14 oz Ribeye paired with the brandy peppercorn sauce. The steak itself was extremely chewy despite being cooked medium rare and lacked flavour, even with the sauce. The boiled vegetables seem a bit pointless and really show the lack of effort as eating ... plain boiled vegetables at an upper priced steakhouse is questionable. Mashed potatoes were hard to swallow. CB Burger was also disappointing as the patty was hard as a rock and extremely dry, which I would not expect from a steakhouse. The free bread at the start was good though. Overall for the same price point, I would definitely say a much better job could be done with the rib eye and peppercorn sauce, where the flavour and texture of the meat at Cattle baron was disappointing. I will not be back. Read more
My boyfriend and I had such a lovely experience this evening at the CattleBaron. We'd like to make a special shout-out to Howard, our server, who took such great care of us and really set such a nice tone for the evening. He was so friendly, attentive and professional. We ... both really appreciated it! The food was awesome and so fresh too. We've gone to the airport location in the past and have to say the atmosphere and quality compared to the SE is like night and day. I will definitely come back to this place! Thank you to all of the hard working staff that made it a great experience as soon as we walked through the door. Read more
Went here for a birthday dinner for 5 people. We were told that tables were reserved for two hours time slots because it's quite a busy location. No problem by us, however the service was so slow that we only got our entrees 95 minutes into sitting there. Our server was ... initially quite prompt and helpful, but that declined rapidly over the 3+ hours we were there because everything took so long. Our first issue was drinks, my dinner partners each had a mixed drink while waiting for our appetizers (dry ribs and baked brie). And the whole table witnessed when the server asked if they would like another round (they said yes) and when the drinks never came and the server was asked about it she said: "I never heard you order". The appetizers were okay, baked brie was *tiny* and cold, not runny at all which was disappointing. The dry ribs were exactly that, nothing too impressive. We had our appetizers for over 30 minutes when we asked about when the mains were coming as we were hungry same server replied "we can't bring out mains till appetizers are cleared", then she turned and walked away, no offer to check, nothing. I had the prime rib. It was rubbery, the au jus was under seasoned, and the steamed vegetables were barely blanched. The broccoli was still totally raw. It was honestly a terrible experience as a whole. The manager was polite, however, when I went to the bathroom I noticed the front end staff pointing and talking about me which made me quite uncomfortable as I don't think I did anything wrong by asking the manager for some assistance. I wonder how many tables had a similar bad experiences and just ate their food and left. Read more

Good steak taste but was kind of thin? Good attentive service. French onion had good deep onion flavor.
