Zingara Fine Trattoria - Windsor, Ontario

I don't usually write reviews, good or bad; however, I feel compelled after the experience I had today...just a few moments ago. Let me first say that for many years now, our family has gone to La Zingara for dinner and we have always enjoyed good food, good service and an ... overall good time. We have hosted several significant family events there over the years (wedding showers, rehearsal parties, milestone birthdays); as well as simple gatherings of a few friends/family or intimate dinners for 2. We have never been disappointed; indeed, we have enjoyed ourselves immensely and have recommended the restaurant to everyone, even those who visit from out of town. It was always our "go to" place. Today, as on other days, we decided to drop in for a quick drink on the patio to watch the Tour of Italia Bike Race (women's race). We had asked in advance if it was OK to "only " have drinks and the answer was yes. We wanted to sit in the sun as unfortunately the weather was not cooperating. The drink order was in and the usual pleasantries had been exchanged. The experience had started out as usual...on a pleasant note. However, before long, a different waitress came to the table and asked that we move to another table...not in the sun, but rather in the shade. We were reluctant and respectfully declined as we were not planning on staying long. Our drinks came, with our original waitress, the race began and we were enjoying the moment. Shortly there after, the owner, Pina, came and said she had to move us. Someone with a reservation was coming in a 1/2 hour and they had to set the table for a "few" people. She pointed to a shady area and tried to claim that it was sunny. We did move; not really having a choice, but we had to move ourselves. There was no offer to help us move. There was no apology. The were no pleasantries whatsoever. The whole experience has left a very bad taste. We are regulars and were stunned to have been treated so disrespectfully. There was no need to rush us out. Good etiquette called for an apology at least and the offer to help us move to another comfortable place. How unfortunate. We were stunned with the treatment; lack of respect and courtesy, so much so, we needed to write it down. Not sure who was coming for the reservation; perhaps a very important group of people. Great pizza and very nice staff . The price was also fair ! I would go back for their pizza for sure

We were passed to 3 different people to seat us, which seemed formal but was just silly. I was the only person to notice shards of broken glass in our water glasses before they actually poured the water. The glasses were replaced, and the wait for the food was short. ... We got pizza which was perfect and spaghetti, which wasn't fully cooked (crunchy). They said they'd remake it and then reheated it and brought it back cooked. Two parties over 6+ came in and they started ignoring us. Our water was empty for 20 minutes, and it took another 20 to get boxes for our food and the bill, and another 10 to actually pay and leave. Menu is refreshing. Staff was nice. Live singer as we ate. Food solid 7. Muscles to start could've been better had they used higher quality but thats the only dish i can criticize.

Terrible customer service. Restaurant had been only open for about 15 minutes and the only other customer was a table on the patio, so it wasn't busy. I was looking to purchase $150 gift card. Finally, after about 5 minutes bartender finally acknowledged me as he was delivering to the table ... and once back, would help me then. OK - I won't get too excited...not ideal, but who am I, right? As he started on my gift card, one of the customers came in to complain about the drink made and was concerned that he was demonstrating an attitude of indifference...his response...wait for it " I think YOU have an attitude and YOU should leave!" Needless to say, I'll be getting a gift card from another Little Italy establishment. PS - sadly, I have to put 1 star or it won't let me post. Read more
