Ordinary, I think the portions to be quite small. The meat beef, pork and shrimps were overcooked, the sauce that came with the plate tasted like it had almost turned sour, not the normal vinegary tastes buy a weird after taste like a bad wine. The noodles were fine, ... the rolls were fine , but very underwhelming. Normally I would give this place 2/5 but considering this is one of the rare Vietnamese restaurant to still have desserts I gave them a star just for that. Also, when I arrived the dishes/cuttlery were slightly dirty, nothing much but it's a point to note. Although I found the culinary experience ordinary the place itself is quite pretty, and there was a certain ambiance. If I had to choose I would not go back but it's not the worst place either. Pros: It's a bring your own wine. Lots of different food options to choose from. Reasonable prices. Cons: It is no different than many other Asian restaurant in Montreal. Service was a little slow - It took a little while to get our orders taken and for the food to come and the place wasn't busy ... at all. Both food and service were fine to us, nothing special and nothing to complain about. You get what you pay for. They do not serve alcohol and the waitress told us to buy from the Metro nearby and brought to the restaurant.

While ai would certainly not say the staff pour their souls into your meal, they do put a lot of heart and that makes for a good atmosphere worth checking out. Beautiful inside and out, the place sports all the tacky yet lovely features of what you would expect from ... an Asian restaurant such as aquariums and bouddhas and weird paintings. The Tonkinoise was absolutely delicious and the phad Thai, even more succulent than I dared hope. Did I mention that the price is great? Do tip the staff nicely and expect a swift, competent service. Great sizzling noodle plates and spring rolls, and bring your own wine, this restaurant is close to where I live and one of my regular restaurants. I really recommend this place if you're looking for Vietnamese food in the Gay Village.
