TAO Restaurant - Montreal, Quebec

I went to Tao at the request of a friend who knows me to be knowledgeable about Chinese food and maybe for my company. I reviewed the menu on Google and designed a menu that might preempt the old traditional choices of the people attending. It worked,the ordering confusion was minimal. Service was ... pathetic. We literally had to beg for our food after seven rounds(exaggerated) of water. Every dish had the same characteristics,overcooked,lacking in discernable flavor and small quantities served on large plates at not cheap prices. I ordered from their catering service and I was very happy with it. There were a host of allergies that we needed to be mindful of (particularly soy), and Tao managed to make good Chinese food without soy! We were looking for a good inside diniing asian resto in ndg as most are just marginal. We were surprised to see how nice/classy the inside of Tao was. The service and the food were exceptional. The peanut butter dumplings, general Tao, wonton soup had a flavorful broth ... unlike most that taste like water. Add a beer to our main plates and price was just over $,40.00 it is now our go-to Asian resto. If you haven't tried Tao we strongly recommend it. Read more

Phenomenal varied pan Asian menu, with beautifully presented dishes, and a separate vegetarian/vegan menu under the iChing brand. Attentive, friendly service. Subdued, zen atmosphere with luxurious decor. Highlights include the large egg rolls and hunan dumplings with peanut sauce (veg or meat). Thick Shanghai noodles or soft skinny lo mein ... dishes also lovely (and large to share family style). Thai red curry was perfectly spiced for those who like it piquant. Shrimp in lobster sauce is a perfect execution of a classic Cantonese dish that really should be called ‘Prawns’ because they are very large and flavourful. Parking in the neighbourhood could take a little while, but being across the street from Villa Maria Métro is a good option (also a terminus for 5 bus routes). Seating is spaced every second table when possible, and vaccination passports properly checked. Bathroom is immaculately clean and well stocked. My only suggestion would be to create a vegetarian ‘combo’ menu including soup and appetizer for a set price like the regular menu, but the à la carte menu is so reasonably priced, and the portions so generous, it is not a big deal. Yesterday visited at lunch time, overall experience is good. We ordered Crab but upto the mark. Curry is good so far but size of crab is very small as per charges. Also serving size is also not much.
