Rumi - Montreal, Quebec

After a disastrous experience at the Croissanterie across the street we went to Rumi which has been on my radar for some time. It was excellent. The menu is interesting and broad. There was a shakshuka on the menu with beef and lamb which really hit all the buttons. I ... ate it slowly just to savour it. My wife had a semolina dish - kouinaffeh - which she adored. Add to it a delicious mint tea and it was a great meal. Service was excellent, atmosphere warm and lovely. The server mentioned pastia for the next time. And we’d be down for a next time for sure. Went there for lunch and loved the vibe of the place! It is super cozy. We ordered Batingen and grilled squid for appetizer and the Batingnen was average but the grilled squid was yummy! We also got Lassi and Rumi drinks which I liked them both. For the main meal, we got Fez, Kafta ... and the grilled chicken. The Fez was super delicious and yummy, the Kafta and the grilled chicken was average though. I'm very picky when it comes to rice and they had pretty well cooked saffron rice but the food is certainly over priced. Very unique Middle Eastern cuisine. Delicious dishes from Morocco, Iraq, and Iran. The appetizers are well-chosen and very tasty. The main plates taste are very unique and the whole experience is a must-try with the lighting, decorations, and Music.

I was disappointed after i tried their new Muhamara. It was very bland compared to their previous version. Otherwirse, the Fez was just perfect!

Too expensive in terms of what you are paying and quantity of food you are getting. Food is average quality and bland. There is a waiter guy who is extremely rude and his attitude is very bad. Try to avoid him at all circumstances, his service is too poor. He ... is walking around with a attitude like "I don't want to serve you, get out of here".Their sound system is too bad; thus making your ears burst. Music was so loud that we had to scream at one another while talking. We were a group of 3, who went for dinner and everyone came out dissatisfied with a bill of 130$ + tip. Only good thing is their dessert. Advice: there are many good middle Eastern restaurants out there, avoid this at all cost. Read more
