Restaurant Via Roma - Montreal, Quebec

Excellent traditional Italian dishes. I love the decor. The terrace with retractable roof is one of a kind. The interior of the restaurant is very pretty. The staff is very friendly and professional. I like antipasti and veal escalopes.

There were around ten people celebrating my friend and I’s birthday. To start, we asked for water so the waiter wanted to bring us bottled water. Then, after placing our order and seeing the service was too long, I asked the waiter Zak for bread with butter. Right away he ... told me OK. But when I asked him again after about fifteen minutes, he replied 'My boss doesn't want me to serve you bread'. We noticed that the other tables had bread and were served more quickly than us even though we had arrived before. Most of the orders we made were pizzas, I would say that the pizzas purchased frozen are better than those from the restaurant. I had seafood pasta which was not bad. I asked the waiter to bring me some parmesan but he didn't want to and he sent the cook to tell me that 'the taste of the seafood went with the parmesan'. Since I insisted, he ended up bringing it back to me. We brought back a birthday cake and made the reservation over the phone. When it was time for the cake, the owner came and informed us that she wanted to charge us $2.5 per person to cut the cake. We mentioned to him that we made the reservation and were not informed of any fees to charge for cutting the cake. She told us it was to pay the divers. The old owner was unbelievably cold. We ended up taking our Cake and going to the fast food restaurant next door called La Corniche which welcomed us, gave us plates, extencils and prepared tea for free. This is an Italian restaurant that can't make good pizza. They cheap out on the toppings, little sauce, little cheese barely any peperoni 1 or 2 specs of mushrooms red bell pepper instead of green bell pepper. Great place, amazing terrase, the food was very good while remaining simple. The table next to the kitchen makes you really feel like your part of the place.

The food is good but you have to take away because the old Italian owner has no sense of welcoming customers. We came at 4 p.m. to eat, checking beforehand on the internet that they remained open between dinner and supper...
