Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience at Casa Cacciatore tonight. I really prefer to write positive reviews, so the fact that I'm writing such a negative one really stands out. It was my birthday tonight, and I asked my husband specifically if we could go to this restaurant because we ... had a good experience over the Summer. After our meal, I now sadly regret that I made this decision. My main problem was with the service although surprisingly, the food was not on the level of the meal we had last June. Our bigger problem was the waiter was very rude and had "an attitude. " When I asked for suggestions for what to order, he initially offered no help. While I can respect that "everything might be good" on the menu, he made no effort to help and seemed "bored" with my request for help. When my husband asked for suggestions for wine, he practically sneered when my husband said he'd prefer a wine under 50$. In the end, he did suggest a dish that was good--but too rich for me. I don't fault the restaurant for this; it was just too much for me. Being that it was my birthday, I did decide to send it back and ask for something less rich. The waiter acted put out about this. After dealing with the waiter's attitude the whole night, I finally decided to say to something to the person who appeared to be the owner. Had this conversation gone better, I would not be writing this review. I didn't ask for any discounts or price changes or comps. That was not the point of me saying anything. The only thing I wanted was for my comments to be treated with a minimum level of respect and courtesy. Instead I was told that perhaps this was not the restaurant for me--after all, he had 1000 customers and they couldn't spend too much time on one customer. What to say to that! At no time did he say he would talk to the waiter or acknowledge that it was a shame we had a bad experience on my birthday. I left extremely upset and disappointed. He did not seem to care that he had lost our business permanently. His attitude seemed to be: whatever, can't be bothered! The irony was that his restaurant was only about 2/3 full--not insignificant for our restaurant, but if I were him, I wouldn't be so quick to offend customers. All this to say--there are so many great Italian restaurants in Montreal. We will be going to any number of them--but not Casa Cacciatore. I have no desire to be disrespected on my birthday, much less any other day of the year. Read more
Exquisite but expensive food. Lunch for 2 came to $60. Cosy hunter's cabin decor.
My buddy was craving some pasta, so we stopped by Casa Cacciatore to have an old school Italian experience. The interior of the restaurant really gives off that old generation feel, with dark oak walls, old photos, various twentieth century guns, etc. I ordered their ravioli à la crème. It's quite ... simply ravioli and a cream sauce. No surprises there. If you're a pasta lover and not shy of the carbs and oodles of cream sauce, you'll find yourself in a happy place with this dish. If you're me, and somewhat concerned about health, you'll want to nibble on maybe half of this then throw in the towel, because boy is that ravioli swimming in cream. I also had a chance to try my friend's spaghetti, which was fine. I'd sum up the pasta at Casa as reliably predictable. You're likely not going to be wowed, but you won't be disappointed if you're a pasta fan. Read more
I have been eating here for years. My friends and I ate here recently they took excellent care of us. The food was as delicious as usual, the service was great, and the ambiance was cozy.
First visit going with the menu I liked it, second visit a la carte was disappointing. Overpriced frozen small Shrimps ($3 each) to add to your vongole (mini tasteless rubber) spaghetti swimming in sauce. Rip off house wine. Was charged for the whole 3 course menu but only ordered and ... got the main dish (lamb rack which is fine). Won't be going back for a while. Read more
