Chez Queux - Montreal, Quebec

Bad service, bad food

When I see comments saying that the service is freezing, the food "ok", I find that absurd. Chez Queux is surely one of the only restaurants in Montreal where you can enjoy distinguished service without being familiar and rediscover the authentic tradition of French hospitality. I went to Chez Queux two times last week. First during the afternoon : the menu was simple and well executed on the beautifull terrasse of Place Jacques Cartier. We then tasted the poutine Chez Queux and some nachos with cola and beer. It was perfect for a family meal.. I ... came back later to the old Montréal with my girlfriend. We then noticed special menues, including a table d'hôte at 37 $ on the corner of St-Paul street. i had a big surprise when i realised that i was going to the same restaurant than Wednesday but in another division. The place is spacious, intimate, and beautifully decorated and the meal a la table d’hôte was superb. The service was kind and gentle, and was marked by a discovery, the Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem 2012 from M.Chapoutier witch was suggested by the sommelier. The wine was outstanding and was priced at 54$ a bottle. You don't see that quality of wine in a restaurant at that price too often. For all these reasons i think la Cave and Chez Queux are both outstanding in their respective categories. Read more

I don't understand the negative reviews of this flagship of gastronomy in Montreal. The atmosphere is very warm, the cuisine inventive, the presentation of the dishes very careful, the service is impeccable, when the price is more than reasonable. Last night we enjoyed a grilled rib of beef with a mushroom sauce, ... my partner ordered the other special of the season, a grilled lobster, both sides garnished, all for $50.00. I had already eaten at this restaurant. I also went back with Groupon's "the Fox" promotion. My girlfriend and I found everything excellent. The service was very good. The orange crème brûlée was sublime! Certainly one of the best (if not the best) I have eaten!
