This is a little surprise off of Chinatown. Really simple looks and a little hard to find. The food is worth the discovery. Go try this place out

I can state with certainty that when prepared properly, Niu Kee has the best Sichuan cuisine in the city, bar none. That being said I have been here a couple of times and their preparation and execution of dishes has been below par. I still give it a 5 star ... because it's hard to expect perfection from a restaurant that is such a hidden gem in the city and has a shaky customer base. Do not order "white" Chinese items from the menu such as General Tao chicken. Niu Kee offers these to appease certain customers but where it shines is in a dish like Ma Po Tofu, which is the best in the city: well balanced but spicy, soft tofu that breaks upon will, and just delicious without any extraneous items thrown into the dish like other Chinese restaurants. Give this restaurant a couple of tries with the Ma Po Tofu and rice as the base of the meal. I'll be very surprised if you don't enjoy your experience. Read more

I've been here twice, both times on a Saturday night. The first time the food was great and it was packed, which made the very basic space feel inviting.
