Food tastes ok BUT after returning here a few years after my last visit, I doubt I will be back. Let me tell you why. It comes down to my main problem with a lot of Chinatown restaurants in Montreal, CLEANLINESS. I'll also slip in freshness of food. On my ... visit, it didn't take me long before pointing out a few problems. From where I was sitting, I can see a very dirty entranceway which is not tiled and looks like it's part of an abandoned building. Next I noticed a lot of dust on the ledges next to where I was sitting (on the inside I have to say). I also noticed all the mirrors are dirty and that trapped in the circular lamps they have on the ceiling are hundreds of dead flies that they don't bother to get rid of. Are you guys hungry yet? On my way out I took a look at the tank which is home to the lobsters and crab customers will eat. I noticed a dead fish in the tank. Someone will probably eat that dead fish !!! I'm so dissappinted that these restaurants don't get huge fines. When I read up on fines, rarely do you see fines in the thousands of dollars. This is a sin because restaurant owners of this type laugh all the way to the bank and take us clients for fools. If they get away with all this, just think of what goes on in a hidden kitchen. See for yourself the images I took. Until then if you want good places in Chinatown, keep your eyes wide open. It's a good bet going to places where you can see the open kitchen like Noodle Factory or the dumpling place in the corner where Asian ladies hand roll them in the middle of the restaurant. Other than that, these places are sadly all dirty and unsanitary. Chinatown needs many more food inspectors going to places like this. It's a public duty!!! Read more
Everything I had ordered here in past years tastes great. The service has deteriorated however, they reduced portions and there was a rude waitress. On the lunch special menu, it's written that rice would be served with it, but that waitress refused to give it to me stating they changed ... it, without actually updating the menu. That was just ridiculous, a business that can't give out steamed rice that they said would be included. I wouldn't have ordered a side dish had I known the service would deteriorate that bad. What a scam! So, expect good food, but service will be hit-or-miss depending who's the staff working there, so it's better just go next door where the staff is more considerate. Read more
The best authentic Chinese restaurant in town! Great for the entire family. Lots of choices and good amount of food. Definitely going to return often
The worst foods and services ever. My friend and I went to the restaurant at 12:30 and was welcome in the responsible mannerism. We ordered the lamb hot pot and seafood soup. However, the foods were salty and lacked of lots of spicies which created the terrible tastes on foods. Also when ... we asked for hot chili oil, they was not pleased to bring it for us. When we came to the counter to pay our bill, the bill was 41.90 Nd we did not satisfy for the services as they did not welcome us as well even we ordered 2 meals for only two people and lots of left over foods due to its terrible tastes; the cashier still asked us to give 5$ for tips as tips MUST BE 10% EVEN FOR THE TERRIBLE SERBICES AND FOODS EVER. NEVER COME TO THE RESTAURANT AGAIN AND MUST HIGHLY RECOMMEND PEOPLE TO CHANGE IDEAS IF THEY THINK TO COME TO THE MON SHING RESTAURANT... Read more
This place opens until very late, making it a convenient spot for some good solid food. The service here is quick and friendly. We ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Squid, and Scallops, Yangzhou Fried Rice, and Braised Chicken. We happily feasted on our food when it arrived. Portions ... here are tremendous. Everything tasted very good. The pork was nice and crispy. You get a nice sweet and tangy taste with each bite. The salt and pepper fried seafood was fried to perfection. I liked how it was piping hot. The fried rice was executed perfectly - aromatic and seasoned well. The braised chicken was tender, saucy, and savoury. Read more
