Kum Mon Restaurant - Montreal, Quebec

This is my first experience ordering at this Restaurant for a family gathering and unfortunately it will be my last . The service on the phone and at the door was very good. The disappointment was with the food. Here is an honest review of each dish. - Spring rolls: full of oil -Salt & ... pepper chicken wings : chicken was old, bones were brown and meat tasted off - General Tao : Fried dough balls with chicken in them and drizzled with some red sauce that tastes nothing like the real thing - Beef Sesame: Never found the beef only the breading and has no sesame taste - Salt & Pepper shrimp : Absolutely no taste of salt and pepper (very disappointing) , it’s my favourite dish. - Shrimp fried rice : No flavour - Shanghai noodles : I could almost say it had some flavour to it. We also had the Wonton Shrimp soup and Fried Wonton Shrimp which were OK. I really hope that the owner reads this review and makes the proper adjustments to his recipes and style of cooking. With the meal costing over 200$ i would expect the quality to be just as good as other authentic Chinese restaurants. I usually order from FOOLAM on l’Acadie but wanted to try a new place to see what the competition had to offer. Live and learn, if you are happy somewhere just stick to it. Read more

Made the mistake to order there from Uber eat, food is disappointing and disgusting. Every single item is tasteless. I am wondering how they are still open. Worst « Chinese » restaurant ever. DO NOT GO THERE

TL;DR avoid. Not good, other restaurants are better for the price. Wish i saw reviews before i ordered and ate. Didn’t look for bugs, but that scares me that someone else got roaches in their food. I got the general tao, the egg roll and rice. The general tao is pretty awful. ... Heavy, unpleasantly soft breading on tough, chewy, stringy chicken. Sauce is not the typical general tao sauce. it’s kind of like a watered down barbecue sauce. Overall, the flavour was off and not at all something i would recommend. Feels like it was made using old leftovers in a rush. Rice was exactly as you’d expect. hard to mess up. Tastes good but is a little old. Not really fresh. Egg roll was good. Crispy outside and soft warm inside. tasty, but the sauce was bland. I don’t like giving low ratings but i also don’t like eating suspicious, subpar food after overpaying. Read more

I ordered two soups (ubereat) - the won ton and the asparagus-crab - and both were exactly the way I like them, good quantity at a reasonable price. In particular the won ton was a shrimp won ton, with lots of shrimp filling, and not too much pasta around it ... (exactly how I like it). I am motivated to try other things... Read more

This restaurant used to have the best food ever. During the last year it has declined a lot. To give you an example, the Cantonese fried rice used to come with so many things. Now it's just a sad looking fried rice. To be fair, perhaps they might have ... kept the prices low but they sacrificed the ingredients in the dishes.
