Check out TOP-10 Best Burger restaurants in Montreal, QuebecReviews for JoBlo in Montreal, Quebec
So sad to find out last night that Jo Blo has completely revamped their menu. While their old menu made them unique among the Montreal food scene, their new menu has turned them into just another generic Montreal steakhouse, with generic, forgettable food. I am sad to say that they ... have lost everything that made their food unique. Before the menu change, I would have easily given Jo Blo a 5+ star rating - but I’ll just have to settle on a 2-star rating now. While craving nachos, my husband and I decided to head to Jo Blo for dinner yesterday evening. We were so sad to find out that their menu (once a six page delight of delicious appetizers and the BEST burgers, nachos, and mac & cheese in Montreal) had been significantly reduced to a one page, generic Montreal restaurant menu. When I asked the waiter about the change, he explained that they wanted to change from being a burger joint to a steakhouse, and offer meals with fresher ingredients than before. It sounded promising, so we decided to stay and try out this new, "fresher" menu. So began a series of disappointments. We ordered the House Salad and Pork Terrine to start, followed by two House Burgers. The House Salad was disappointing, with a generic, forgettable vinegrette dressing and none of crispiness and flavour of a fresh salad. The Pork Terrine was good, but nothing spectacular or distinctive about it that would cause us to order it again. Next came the House Burgers (made of beef and duck), which we had high hopes for, but were very disappointed in. We could barely taste any of the duck it was supposed to contain, and the toppings (bacon, caramelized onions, and cheese) were nothing special (unlike the variety of toppings that they offered on their old burgers, which were always delicious). The fries were generic fries, and had the same quality and taste as the fries you can get at St. Hubert. In terms of drinks, we had the Pimm’s Cup, Lemon Drop, Rusty Nail, and a Manhattan. While the Manhattan and Pimm’s Cup were decent, the Lemon Drop tasted watered down and I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. Overall, the food was good, but nothing near what we expected based on our previous experiences at Jo Blo. Jo Blo used to be unique among the Montreal food scene. Now it’s just another generic, Montreal steakhouse. The ambiance is still there, and the waiters and service is still good, but there’s just nothing special or particularly unique and flavourful about their food anymore. In fact, nothing on their menu screams out “fresh” to me – all the ingredients they seem to include in their meals now are ones that can easily be stored for weeks, if not months, without going bad. I am sad to say that my husband and I will not be returning to Jo Blo in the future, not unless they make significant changes to their current menu. Read more
Fantastic resto with a 60s supper club feel replete with horse statues and pistol lamps. Food is excellent (tartare is outstanding, burgers are good) and portions huge. Service is prompt and very friendly. All in all, fantastic neighbourhood resto.
My new favourite restaurant! Staff was amazing, food even better. I went with a friend and we shared the shrimp appetizers and the rib-steak plate with a side of Mac-and-cheese. Perfect for two people. Coming back for sure!
I was a little nervous because I ordered the daily special, which was cod, and their specialty is steak. I have a habit of doing this so it could only be my fault if it wasn't good, right? It was EXCELLENT! It was served on a bed of rice with ... steamed asparagus and a tomato salsa on top. It was really delicious. The service was a tad bit slow (yet friendly) but I chalk that up to the chef taking the time to prepare it well. I will definitely return with my friends next time to try some appetizers, a burger and some of their specialty cocktails. Read more
Very limited menu. We took 20 minutes to decide and in the end 4 choices were not available. The cod was substituted y rout, the bavette steak was substituted by a sirloin strip. The ingredients for a pear cocktail were not available. There was no pork ... terine 'left.' So it was burgers for everybody. We were all thinking why not just tell us what you have and forget the menu as of last night. The waitress was pleasant and its clear these issues were beyond her control. If your coming from far away its not worth it, if your local maybe better if they can get it together. I think 3 stars is more than fair. Read more
