I know the restaurant's style is "Asian fusion", but to me it felt more like Westernized into a flavorlessness and inauthenticity. Fusion should be about picking the best of two cultures and the surprisingly good combination of unlikely partners. Vua is more about eliminating everything that makes Asian culture great, ... so that the Westerners won't be too off-putted by it. First of all, this is Vietnamese fusion, which is a bit funny considering how much the Vietnamese cuisine is already influenced by French cuisine. Banh mi is already a baguette sandwich, could this get anymore French? Well Vua replaces the daikon with onions, the Vietnamese chili with jalapenos (scandalous), cuts the carrots too thin, adds too much sauce that is too sugary and gelatinous, and worst of all, they shockingly TOASTED the whole thing. When the nice lady asked me "Whole wheat or brown bread?", I didn't exactly feel like I was ordering from a food cart in the streets of Saigon. That being said, it's still a very respectable 6$ sandwich. I also frankly enjoyed their options for drinks and had a very decent raspberry black bubble tea. If you're stuck downtown and need a quick sandwich I would still recommend this over Tim Horton's. Also, if you like wearing yoga pants every day and walk down the street with you yoga mat as a purse, drink Match and soy-based beverages while reading Cosmo and enjoying your own version of a "fresh and healthy meal", then I think you might like this place. If you're looking for a good Banh-Mi, I would recommend Vinh's Café only 400ft away (555 Sherbrooke West) Read more
