Today we went to Earls St. Albert, Alberta for an early dinner. My wife was ranting and raving about how great the Ahi Poke Bowl was at Earls. We ordered two beers, some wings, my meal and my wife’s Ahi Poke Bowl. The manager on duty delivered our food. As he left, ... my wife and I looked at each other and said, “Where’s the rest of it?” The bowl was half empty. We called over our server. She noticed our dismay, and immediately said; “Let me get the kitchen to make you a new one. Do you want to nibble on this one as you wait for the new one?” We replied, “No that’s okay, you can take it away. We can wait for the new one” Three minutes later the manager returns with what we thought was the new Ahi Poke Bowl. He put the bowl down and said, “I heard the last one was a little dry” Then turned and walked away. They literally served us the original one that we sent back and added some kind of dressing on it. We knew this because my wife had stirred the old one up (See photo). Who does that? Who re-serves food that is sent back? What else is going on in that kitchen? We called the server back and she was mortified when we told her that they served us the original bowl that we sent back. We asked to please bring us our bill as we had lost our appetite. She went to the manager at the bar and returned shortly after to say that the manager wasn’t going to do anything about it. We paid for our bill in full, added 15% for the server as it wasn’t her fault, got up and left without finishing our meals, nor our beers. This was not about getting something for free. My wife just wanted what we went there for, with the quality that she had gotten in the past. Needless the say, we will never go to another Earls anywhere. Let this be a lesson to all restaurants owners/managers. “If a patron sends a meal back, it means it wasn’t to their satisfaction, regardless of the reason. Get them a new one, and you’ll keep that patron for life! Don’t, and you’ll lose them for life!” As the saying goes: “You can put lipstick on a pig, but at the end of the day it’s still a pig!” Read more
