Upper Crust Bakery - Winnipeg, Manitoba

I've been trying hard to support Charleswood businesses being a Charleswood resident. But I can no longer after a few bad experiences In a row. I normally don't review places either but this time I felt so strongly that I feel I must. This is now the 3rd instance in a ... row where I get home after spending $30-$40 on 5 or 6 items and everything is stale and 1 thing was mouldy. I bought a facosha pizza bread and thought that the green on the tomatoes was the spices they used, but nope, that's fuzzy mould when I got home. My hotdog buns and dill buns were hard and dry. The only item I that seems to always be ok is the cinnamon bread as I think that comes in fresh near daily, but the rest.... leave it alone. Last trip I bought the rainbow bread and sure enough next day, we noticed mould on it. I hate to agree with someone else here, but if you are in the area, your better option is Safeway... or drive a little further and go to Harvest Bakery at Route 90 and Kenaston. If I could give a 0 here, I would. Also, the 2 older ladies at this place give you an attitude that makes you feel like they don't want you there, and they have way better things to do. This is the one of the main reasons of a weight problem in the country...

I had two products from here, both were quite dry and I fear that they were left over the weekend. I had a sour dough(which wasn't that sour) and a cheese onion bun(which wasn't that cheesy). I get that it's a small, local business, and I'm willing to pay a little ... bit more for an artisanal product, but this just wasn't worth it. Sorry Upper Crust. I had high hopes. Read more

Very disappointing. I would not go in again. Poor quality, did not taste good, I could get better at a big box stores.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. There is so much potential for a good bakery to set up shop here, but they all fail. Partially frozen deserts, short dated and stale bread and crappy service. I stopped in here today to pick up some Calibrese bread at 4pm ... for supper. The lady looked upset that she had an actual customer and didn't even bother greeting me. I grabbed a short dated French bread, as they didn't have my first choice or any fresh loaves of French. I proceeded to ask for 6 cookies, she grabbed a bag and then the phone rang. I expected her to answer and put them on hold, but that didn't happen. She proceeded to take the call while I waited with cash in hand, ready to pay. She was walking around the bakery explaining on the phone, what pastries they had. I put my bread back and left, never to return. How about dealing with the customers that are in your actual store, ready to buy, instead of phone calls? What a crappy bakery and service. The only reason we went here was because it was close and local, but to be honest....Safeway has a better bakery and Harvest Bakery a couple KMs away, blow this place away. Read more
