Jag’s Buffet - Winnipeg, Manitoba

I went on Thursday, "rib buffet". First off I have to say the salad/soup bar is excellent. I have never tried the soup but looks ok. (I had a bad experience upstairs in the restaurant figured it came from the same place) Food They had corn on the cob, carrots 2 kinds of ... potatoes , Roast Beef, chicken and 2 kinds of ribs and a couple other things. the deserts are always excellent plenty of fresh fruit,cakes,pies and other deserts. I especially like the chocolate macaroons. It is a shame they are closing the buffet in March 2018 as it is a bargain at $20. coffee /tea included. Went on a Thursday "Rib Buffet" for $24 (or so) each. First off, I love ribs but I made a mistake indulging in so much. I commented to someone "a lot of BBQ sauce" which it was. Jag's appears to be a very nice restaurant, nice salad bar, even better ... hot choices. Although probably not the restaurant's doing since I believe they are there from the last time something else occupied the space, I'm not impressed with "some" of the decor. It reminds me of a cafeteria (tables and seats), I especially didn't like looking up and seeing far too many cameras. I seem to remember this area downstairs as being a gaming setup awhile ago-years probably, wasn't it bingo or something? We're not gamblers-never plugged a nickel into these when we ONLY went in the past for the buffet when it was on the west end of the main floor, still won't waste any money on those things BUT from walking through the massive array of gaming devices, I took a look at the cameras I could spot on the supports looking down at gamblers. They may have wider angles etc. but still didn't look like the saturation I saw down in the Jag's dining area. Back to Jag's. The staff appear to be pretty good, could use a bit of improvement on "attentiveness". I noticed that in addition to us, very few of other diners had a speedy return from their "server" to ask if they wanted refreshments. I have seen this sort of thing before and it was often at a buffet place ie: the all-in-one food experience. You might see that at a 12 buck a head buffet but Jag's is about $24 so one should expect an almost immediate visit from their server: "would you like water, any liquor or soda pop?" End of meal also, would you like any coffee or tea? Wife advised when I questioned her after we were home "ONLY if you asked for it..." since she had seen others asking but few servers suggesting it. Deserts appear to be better than some of the buffets we've been to, nice tortes, cheesecakes etc. Banana cream pie-fresh, not a frozen type. Pastries aren't cheap if diners go overboard, that alone could reach 20 a head if one so indulged. Kudos to the Jag's team of chefs/cooks, only encountered a few but saw them checking food temps. and I advised that it's something I haven't seen that often. Hot food, cold salad bar, everything fresh and obviously safe. A nice blend of tastes/spices, Cumin in rice, a new one for me, different but acceptable in my opinion. We're not fussy diners and even though I had an issue with our own server, I let it slide and still tipped because I've almost never encountered an incompetent one to begin with; they're in a very demanding and somewhat inconsistent business after all. Will we return to Jag's? Yes BUT please take not of all those cameras, they're NOT actually needed in a restaurant setting. I know they're commonplace these days, maybe the gamblers don't mind but it actually ruins the decor by those things hovering over almost every table. Way overpriced, for what we got, the beef was tough, the jumbo prawns were tasteless, I filled up on the butterfly shrimp, for $30, I had to eat something, but shrimp and fries at any dinner is like $10. I had a beer and glass of wine for the ... wife, it was $75, $80 with a tip. I will never eat on site at Club Regent again. With in a five minute drive from the Casino, there are a dozen places that have way better food for that kind of money. It was so bad, I still feel totally ripped off. Read more

Mothers Day Buffet disappointing. The food was below expectations for a casino. The carvery was ham. Really? for mothers day? not even a carnation for the moms. Shameful. Food was gross, ordered a steak sandwich medium well. Steak came raw and fatty, potatoes tasted like powder potatoes there were not good at all. I will never eat there again was nasty. If you want a good steak and good price go to south beach casino good food.
