It's a good sushi place with friendly staff, and the wait time is usually pretty good. While rare, there have been a few times where the sashimi wasn't as fresh as one would have hoped. Overall still a good place.
I did the Omakase: $39.99 Price is less than Yujiro and Izakaya Edokko Blufish's chef's table is $80 but that's for 2 people. So its a good comparison. Will need to go back there to test again. It is similar as both have 5 courses. 1st Course Soup, Salad, tempura 2nd Course Sushi(Nigiri) and sashimi 3rd Course Deep ... fried salmon with bones 4th Course Modified Captain's roll? 5th Course Green tea ice cream Soup and salad was pretty standard. If you like red and yellow peppers you'll be happy. If you don't, you won't. The nigiri was very thinly sliced and the sushi balls were fat and round. The sashimi thickness wasn't consistent. The salmon and tuna were larger, but the snapper was much thinner. I'm guessing that was what it was as our server did not explain things adequately. Her accent was pretty thick and we needed her to repeat things several times to understand what she was saying. The deep fried salmon with bones came to the table with the messed up design. I was surprised they didn't re-plate it as it looked like it slid. The sauce was very good and the salmon skin was tasty on this fish. However, I was not expecting a piece with as many bones, for people who are unfamiliar with eating fish like this, it might have been a hassle. The captain's roll read that there was both tuna and salmon, however we only noticed the salmon that was flame torched on top. The ice cream was standard green tea. No off flavors, but just 2 small scoops. When we first got there, we ordered genmai cha... but instead of being served filtered they left the leaves on top. I'm not one who likes eating my tea so I did ask them to serve it where we weren't eating the leaves/popped rice. Did I feel we got value with the omakase? Sure, if you ordered everything off the menu it would have been more expensive. I was disappointed by the sashimi selection as it looked more like what you would get from the assorted sashimi. I would have liked if it was something more exotic. I didn't feel it was a premium selection. It pretty much felt like they didn't put too much thought into. Everything tasted ok, but it is not a place I feel inclined to return to. The value for the omakase was fine, I just wish they put more thought and effort into it, which is why for me this is a 3 star. Read more
This place has the most UNCOMFORTABLE AND UNPLEASANT ATMOSPHERE to dine-in I have ever been in my life. Me and my husband were here before going to the Jets game and the restaurant was packed when we came in. We had to sit at the bar which was fine, but ... it started to bother us when one staff(maybe a main chef?) started to yell at other cook. They were speaking in different language, therefore we had no idea what the yelling was all about, but it lasted for the whole time until we leave the restaurant. It looked like that he(the chef) was almost harrassing the other cook and it even scared us. The food was okay, but we had to wait for almost 50 minutes for our food without any apology and we were late for the game. It ruined our date night, it seemed like this restaurant had no training at all for their employees. I do not recommend this place. Read more
Surprised to find this place open late Friday night during Christmas holidays. The Miso soup was nicely seasoned and the sushi and sashimi I ordered was nicely balanced with each other. The salmon was very fresh and buttery, however I've had much better tuna. Surf clam was also very tasty. ... The chef was slightly overzealous on the wasabi on the sushi though - it masked the fish a bit too much. Despite that, it was a tasty meal and surprisingly fresh considering Manitoba's location to the sea. Price was a bit high, but not ridiculous for the quality. Would recommend. Next time try the omakase! Read more
Used to go here all the time. Then they kept increasing he price, but the quality of the food stayed the same, 6/10, the service stayed the same, 5/10 the wait times got longer, 4/10. I cant justify paying $25+ for all you can eat. And also when I ask ... for 10 sashimi, don't bring just 3. Read more
