Reviews for Bengali Sweets and Restaurant in Winnipeg, Manitoba
I went to pick up some sweets the owner doesn’t let customer taste the sweet ask to select just by looking it that too the lights in the cooler doesn’t work . He packed the seeets barehanded when asked about it I do wash it became rude. We asked for ... only one lb but he deliberately makes it 2 saying it’s not coming down and we need to argue why would I pay for 2 lb when only need one . When we tasted the sweet it’s was really not up to the par when we complained he just had his rant that his sweets are best you have different taste . Charges you on debit on how on earth will store doesn’t have a credit card machine in such place when your bill is more than 15 $. I would highly recommend to avoid this place and go to other place where they value customers and not be a self centred egoistic person. Read more
Always give extra things to charge us more. Went to buy 1 Lb sweets, he gave me 1.5 Lb and charged more. The item seems like burnt… have besan barfi several times but it is never like that. Do not recommend to visit there. Not good customer service or sweets ... that I bought. He said we made it fresh, it is soft but it was way too soft and colour was also brown (burnt taste) usually its yellow. Read more
Summary: stop trying to swindle your customers - they're not stupid. Went there today for the first time in a few years and I couldn't have been more disappointed. I guess the management must have changed since I was last there. When I walked in, the lights were off. The person who I ... assume is the owner walked out, with un unimpressed face, asked what I want. I asked for an assortment of sweets for 2 people. He proceeded to pack a large box full of (mostly) the cheaper items, until there were over 3 lb, then wanted to charge me at the most expensive item price by weight. To add insult to injury, another customer walked in who I assume knew the owner, and they stopped serving us to take their order, finishing off one of the items I wanted to try. I asked if he could leave one for me, and he said no, and when he saw the look in my face, said it'll just take 5 mins to make more. He then made us wait 45 (!!) mins! After such a long wait I asked him to reduce the 3 lbs to 2, as it's way too much for just 2 of us, and he reluctantly started removing all the nicer more expensive items from the box, first down to 2.6, (asked if that was ok) then 2.25 (asked again). I was firm on 2, and when all was said and done, I was left with over 50% by volume of the 2 cheapest types of sweets. At that point I just wanted to leave, and didn't feel like arguing further. Worse yet, the sweets themselves don't hold a candle to how good they used to be. I will not be returning. Guess I'll give Holy Spice off of Kenaston a try next time. What a shame. Note: picture is after eating a disappointing yellow ball. Of 10+ deserts on display our "assortment" included 6 kinds. Edit: I tried the rest of the sweets. They were better than the abundant yellow balls, but still nowhere near as good as they used to be. Read more
Bengali Sweets are definitely recommended for their authentic tasting food, and their wide variety of selections when it comes to sweet. I have found myself, numerous times craving the delicious samosas they make! It's the best munchies snack as well as a good snack to take to a picnic setting ... when you're reading a book. All in all I'm really impressed by this beautiful local business that's run by the kindest of the souls. I actually never thought I'd find myself writing a review about bengali sweets because i remember coming across this place couple of times and just walking past it, however I'm glad my dad sent me here; Definitely recommend!!!! I recently visited the restaurant hoping to enjoy some Bengali food. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with my experience. Upon arrival, I noticed there was no menu available, and the sweets on display appeared old. The overall ambiance was quite dull, as none of the lights were switched on and ... there were no other customers present. Regrettably, I left quickly as the atmosphere and lack of available food did not meet my expectations. This version maintains all the important points while being respectful and clear. Read more
