I pre ordered a birthday cake with certain cake and frosting. They asked if I wanted anything special on top like decorations. I said yes great and paid extra. She didnt listen to what I asked and just wrote ' make it pretty' on the slip and she assured ... me it would be what i wanted. It was 3 hrs later than they assured which was tricky because i was bringing it to a dinner. When i picked it up it only had happy birthday, no flowers or other decorations i asked for. I paid but wasn't happy and was in a rush now because it was late and I needed the cake. I was actually embarrassed when this 'special' cake was cut at our dinner celebration. It was the driest, oldest tasting thing I've ever had. It was hard as a rock ( no it wasn't frozen) and the filling was wrong. I had such high expectations because I have purchased other items there before so I was expecting the same quality. I paid $90 for a large 2 layer rock. I felt like it was an old cake they had in the back and tried to make it nice. They had a week's notice. I doubt I will return and wonder if they actually ever taste their own products for control. Everyone at the party asked who made it so that's unfortunate it was such a horrible cake. We could barely cut it and nobody had more than 2 bites, a complete waste and embarrassment. Read more

On July 12, the bakery was to have cupcakes made and ready for pickup the morning of the wedding. Upon arrival, the cupcakes were not ready. They told us they could have them completed for 4:30 pm, which would have been too late as the wedding would already have started. The staff ... then offered to complete them and deliver to the venue within a few hours which we felt was a good effort on their part to rectify the situation. A staff member delivered the cupcakes to the venue and proceeded to place the cupcakes on the table. During this process she tripped and knocked over the containers of the pink cupcakes. All the icing was wrecked on all of them. The staff member did her best to try to spread the icing to fix it. They were a horrible mess. She abruptly left without saying a word. We found these horrible looking cupcakes on the table and pink icing marking up the white table cloth on the table. I called the store in hopes of getting the 2 dozen pink cupcakes replaced. I was told that in the picture they were given from the staff member that they looked fine to them and were still edible. They would do nothing (no replacement and no credit) and wished us a happy wedding.. with a chuckle and hung up. No taking responsibility or apologizing for what occurred . We had to find a different bakery who could make 2 dozen pink cupcakes in a hurry. Luckily we were successful. The attitude of the owners of this bakery is unacceptable especially when it’s a fancy wedding. A huge shout out to the most amazing bakery (appearance and taste) #doubletakecakesandesserts in Steinbach! They saved the day! Best tasting cupcakes! They were all eaten! Store next door cupcakes were dry and icing was heavy. Lots were left over! I gave Store next Door a ‘2’ only because they offered to deliver. Taste and appearance is a ‘1’. There are much better bakeries in the city To spend your money. This bakery caused more stress on the wedding day than was necessary. We met with Kyle for a cake tasting. We had a good experience at first and were interested in booking with them. There was some miscommunication in terms of us wanting to add donuts to our cake. We were told they don't do donuts and we got the impression that ... we could buy our own and add them as decor to our cake. We didn't know that it is frowned upon to add your own decor to a wedding cake. Seeing as how we've never ordered a custom cake before, we didn't even think about this being an issue. Rather than clarifying things with us, Kyle jumped to the conclusion that we wanted to alter his product. We definitely wouldn't do this if we had even known about this being an issue. We honestly only had good intentions and were willing to pay for whatever we needed to have the cake decorated the way we wanted. I tried to rectify the situation but Kyle declined to do business with us afterwards. I was greatly disappointed, considering our friends recently booked with them and had recommended him to us. The situation was dealt with poorly, and I believe that things like this should be communicated better to clients who know nothing about such rules. Read more

The Store Next Door is a cool little shop/bakery. It’s attached to Chew (a restaurant) and they have a number of assorted items, frozen soups, frozen meals, cookie dough to bake at home, etc. They also have a bakery, though I’ve generally only purchased the sweeter items. Their cookies, squares ... brownies and bagels are pretty good. I do, however; love the salted caramels they make. Super delicious. They have family/long-table style seating available.
