I was waiting for the opportunity to visit this place because of all the social media recommendations. Finally, I went for my birthday dinner on June 15th. BUT my experience was so disappointing. From the beginning, we arrived at 4:30, the server took us 3 to the table and told ... us that we will need to move at 6PM because she had some tables reserved, we asked to put us in one available for staying longer, she refused. Their menu is very limited, with not proteins in most of the items. There is a condition for ordering the largest items from the menu, that it will take time to prepare them, but because we have been told the hour that we must leave we didn't order any of them. Anyways, we told the server that it is our first time there, she just ignored us and did not recommend anything. We ordered the Tostones, Thai Rice, Peruvian wings, and tacos. She even did not set up our table with napkins and cutlery until we asked for. 18% tip for that? Tostones were ok, greasy but ok. The rice had around 4 prawns for $25! Regarding the Tacos, it was not a big difference for any other option in the city. However, the worst part were the wings, they were raw in the inside, and the flavor from the spices was too strong and weird, literally uneatable. I visited here on a business trip. Originally, it was the shrimp skewers I saw on Google reviews that brought me in. I was sad they were discontinued. I was then confused about what to eat, and the server was very helpful. The plantains were excellent. And I enjoyed ... the Thai rice. It was very flavorful even though it could use a bit more shrimp. I forgot to take a picture of the fried rice. Overall, it was 5/5 for me. Read more

Visiting Winnipeg for business. The downtown is completely dead after 6 PM. Looking for place to have a dinner, this place has good reviews, which I really don't understand. The staff is pleasant and service quick, good selection of drinks, which also appears to be the main focus of this establishment. ... The food menu on the other hand is quite anemic. I've settled for Thai fried rice, which turned out to be quite disappointing. Any fast-food place could probably do better. If you planning to go out to have some drinks, this is convenient location in the downtown, if the food is what you are after, look elsewhere. Read more

It was our party's first time at The Merchant Kitchen. The service was attentive and our server was very genuine. The menu was a little on the smaller side but presented some interesting options. Our server explained the menu and mentioned that the food was served family style. Our party ... decided on purchasing individual appetizers and we decided on the Grilled Corn. The corn was seasoned well, however, the tortilla chips lacked flavour, almost as if they were store-bought.
