I have ordered from Empress Of China for many years and this past Saturday evening , I ordered takeout as I had guests in from out of town . I have never tasted bad food from this establishment, however, tonight was an exception…… egg foo young was mushy. It ... smelled like bad oil, and I honestly would not feed it to my dog, I’m sorry to have to report this but when I phoned the establishment to tell them this, they said they were closed and I’d have to call back the next day to speak to the owner and was hung up on . Chicken balls are usually great but these were very greasy n tasted like bad oil. Soooooo disappointed :( The other dishes were not great either — new cook ? I will not be ordering again ……. My partner and I routinely order dine in and take out from Empress of China. We love the concept of delicious Chinese food without compromising on healthiness, and this restaurant delivers. They offer some really flavorful, veggie-friendly meal options with really nice portions so there’s always leftovers for the next ... day. The deep fried tofu with spicy black bean sauce is an absolute favorite! Each and every experience ordering here has been overwhelmingly positive, with great service and delicious food. This was the worst Shanghai dish I have ever had. It has such a weird taste and texture with the sauce they used. I cannot eat this. No joke does not seem fresh at all! Tastes like old leftovers. Delicious food, the strawberry sauce is just fantastic, everything we had was just spot on. We had the strawberry sweet and sour meatballs, beef and broccoli, ginger beef (mild), honey garlic veal and bbq pork chow mein. Super generous servings. Clean restaurant and excellent service.

3rd time we had from this place in 10ish days while visiting family for Christmas in Winnipeg. Today we had a meal for 6 (GF), wontons and a couple noodle dishes. It was surprising how good and similar GF dishes were to the regular menu, although they do come at steep ... extra $$ for each dish. The ginger beef was good but thought it could be more gingery and the breaded veal was lacking on its own and the honey garlic sauce wasn't the best combination.
