IHOP - Winnipeg, Manitoba

I'm always reluctant to give a positive review to an American chain moving into Canada, but IHOP has earned it. I went in during a busy Sunday Brunch shift, I had to wait less than 10 minutes for a table in a large, comfortable waiting area. When I was seated, I ordered ... the classic buttermilk pancakes with coffee, a perfect way to compare with similar restaurants in the area. I was surprised to receive a personal carafe of coffee, eliminating the need to constatnly pester the staff for refills. I was also pleased to find a selection of 4 different syrups on my table. The coffee was strong and flavourful. The pancakes were light and fluffy. The Old Fashioned syrup was a bit boring, but the Strawberry and Blueberry syrups were surprinsingly good, and the Butter Pecan syrup was out of this world. For such a large restaurant, they do not seat you promptly even with tables available. The menu is the typical IHop menu. The server was friendly but not amazing. The food was a disappointment. The portion size has shrunk so much that it is not worth the money. ... My hashbrowns I asked for crispy and got crispy and cool on the outside and raw and cold inside. I requested new hashbrowns and got new crispy looking hashbrowns that were microwaved. My partner got the themed omelet, and it was good but very light on the toppings versus the price. The pancakes that accompanied the omelet were not cooked all the way and were still raw in the middle. We were excited to have IHOP as this is something we used to have in BC all the time. "I recently visited IHOP in Sterling Lyon Parkway during a busy brunch time, and despite the crowd, the servers remained calm and welcoming. They efficiently took our orders, which arrived promptly. Overall, the food was good; however, I would have appreciated more whipped cream with the pancakes. The egg whites ... with pesto were absolutely delicious and made to perfection, with beautifully plated avocados on top. I found the classic mimosa to be refreshing. Additionally, the restaurant was clean, adding to the pleasant dining experience. Overall, I had a positive experience and would recommend IHOP on Kenaston." Read more

DON’T GO THERE! The menu is misleading as to how much you actually get. The smallest eggs (poached) I have ever seen. Not sure where you acquire robin’s eggs! French toast had no flavour. It is well overpriced. The food was cold. When we brought ip our concerns, you would ... think the Manager would speak with me. Nope. Instead I received a discount. To demonstrate how the cold food is a regular problem, they have an actual “cold food” discount programmed into their bill receipt. We should have realized it was so bad when the restaurant was mostly empty at lunchtime. The best thing about the experience was leaving. Our server was very nice and attentive. Read more

On our last morning in Winnipeg, we went to try out IHop. The food was fantastic, even with the substitutes and modifications we had.
