Nith River Chop House - Wellesley, Ontario

Love this place. Wish I lived close by. Chef was extremely knowledgeable,as was Maddie our waitress. Honest and wholehearted. Food was absolutely delicious. Beef gravy is on point..... but the local beef is a hit. You gotta try this place. 10/10.

Steak salad was delicious. Burger was very messy but very tasty. Good service.

Jalapeño chimichurri burger is UNREAL. Great beef quality and good service. Atmosphere is quite unique too. The only thing I didn’t like was the music (country) but that’s just a personal taste.

I had heard good things about the Nith River Chop House and was looking forward to our visit. I was disappointed. The building is decorated in a rustic, western style, with lots of cow hides. Unfortunately, the hides are all extremely worn, only having hair left in places that are ... not touched by customers. I found it cold, almost as if the heat had not been turned on, (we visited in the first week of November). A visit to the bathroom led to the discovery that both stalls were plugged up. One had an out of service note taped to the door, the other had obviously been blocked more recently. The initial service was ok, coffees were brought and our orders taken. It was early afternoon and the place was pretty quiet. We passed two tables with customers on the way to our table and were seated beside a third occupied table. The couple and infant beside us soon left and were replaced by a couple of guys at the nearby bar. The wait for our food didn't seem to be that long and when it arrived my wife was quite pleased with her macaroni and cheese. I had ordered the 10 oz peppercorn steak medium rare. The veg and baked potato that arrived with the steak were fine. I was not happy with the steak. The steak was heavily covered in a dark sauce so I couldn't see the surface of the steak but it tasted very charred. The thin end of the steak was well done and the thick end was done to medium. The waitress never came back to see if the food was ok and that the steak was prepared as I had ordered. If you call yourself a steak house and make a big deal about the nature of the beef you are serving your customers, I really feel that you are supposed to pay attention to how you customer wants it prepared. In fact, if you run a resteraunt, it's usually de rigueur that you make sure that the customer is happy with the food you have served. The next time we saw our waitress was when she returned to clear my wife's plate. At no time that we were there were we asked if we enjoyed our meals or if everything was ok. Some people might ask why I didn't walk around and find a staff person to complain to? Sometimes I will do that, but this time it just didn't seem to be worth the effort. I was hungry, I didn't want to have to argue to get another steak cooked and to make my wife wait while it was cooked and I ate it. Food was fantastic, they had a good selection of drinks. The service was fast and friendly.
