Took my mother out for dinner, and she used to visit here with my father when he was alive. The food was great and the service was top notch , specially for a small restaurant. First time here. Cod was cooked to perfection. Place was spotless clean.Wish they had pan fried as an option but that won't stop me from coming back.

The New owners of golden fish & chips have ruined what was once one of the better fish and chips places locally. Fish was okay but greasier, drier and the meat doesn't come off smoothly anymore - halibut was still smooth but greasier. Chips were not good. They were either overcooked ... or raw (in the same serving) whereas the previous owners made chips with the perfect crisp. Service was friendly but they mixed up a couple orders. Below is my review from the previous owner, I used to love this place and come here every week. The new owners have ruined it. I’ve given them 3 chances. The fish breading is TERRIBLE now. They are breading empty areas where there isn’t even fish to make the fish look bigger. ... The breading itself has a raw layer on the inside that is the most terrible, gunk-like raw flour texture (SEE PICTURE 2). It retains so much oil. I can no longer stomach what used to be my favourite place. The old lunch special used to include coleslaw. The new owner is charging 1.75 for a portion cup of coleslaw…. 1.75 for like 30g of cabbage is insane. The service is this one kid working his absolute heart out. I feel bad for that kid. The kitchen has him serving absolute garbage, and he deserves better. After trying a few other places nearby, I would say this is the highest quality fish and chips among them. Such a simple and perfect product, truly. The fish taste fresh and the breading is light and as the name suggests, perfectly golden. The fries taste fresh cut and are absolutely beautiful- not too oily either, a sign of being shaken well and not rushed. The coleslaw is fresh and not overly dressed. I get the large haddock meal. This week, we tried Golden Fish & Chips. We were greeted by a friendly server who suggested we pick a table of our choice. It didn't take long to get the menus and drinks. We ended up both choosing from the daily special menu items. We got the fish and chips ... and some shrimp. The fish was perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. It was served with tartar sauce and a lemon wedge. Next time, I'll ask for more tartar sauce. The containers are a little small. Honestly, the fish tasted so good on its own. The fries were yummy too. I personally like thick cut fries, so I really enjoyed these. We will return again and are happy to have found a great fish place in town. Read more
