Big Tex’s Burgers & BBQ - Waterloo, Ontario

Been multiple times, my usual is The Canadian. Entire menu is halal, owners and servers are nice and friendly. Good seating atmosphere, and of course, the burgers are always cooked to perfection and taste great! Slightly heavier than other burger places but worth it when you're hungry!

Love it.. prices are great as the burgers are big. Best of all, its all handmade burgers.

Placed order for 4 people, around 68 dollars for 4 burger combos and delivery. The guy at the restaurant said it would take 40 minutes to arrive, but I was sure it would be sooner as they are about 4 blocks away from my house. We waited for an hour ... and the food didn't arrive. When we called the restaurant they said that the delivery was being sent out shortly and should arrive soon. We then waited another 45 mins and had to call the restaurant again for them to confirm that the driver was now making the delivery. We asked and the worker said that the food was delivered to the wrong address and they would deliver again. They finally delivered about 2 hours after we placed the order. The food was very cold and soggy. We were reluctant to even take the food but we were expecting to be offered the meal for free as it was cold and took 2 hours to arrive. However we were informed that they would just take off the 6 dollar delivery fee as compensation....which is unacceptable. We even offered to pay half, since we could reheat the burgers but they refused that offer. Any other respectable business would have offered us the meal for free but the deivery guy flat out refused and started getting belligerent with us. We asked him to call the manager and were informed that we could get another 10 dollars off our tab...for a total of 52 dollars to be paid. When we said that we wouldn't pay for cold food that took two hours, the delivery guy said he would rather throw it away than give it to us for free. Extremely bad business practices and attitude. My Dad and I used to go to Big Tex's about once a week, but hadn't gone in a few months - until today. It's very clear that the store is under new ownership; and that really sucks. Here's why: When we first entered the store - we were not greeted ... for the first 3-5 minutes. After standing at the counter, a shorter bald gentleman approached and said "what would you like" (not a very friendly greeting after waiting). We were extremely hesitant at this point, noticing the new management - but decided to give them a chance. After ordering two "The Canadian" combos, we observed the son of the owner on the grill; who was cooking his own lunch. It made us a little hesitant again, as we saw him cooking a very black looking burger patty. After the son had finished, one of the female owners took over the grill in order to cook our order. The first observation was that the patties are no longer fresh (as they were before) but now frozen - and that changes the taste a lot more than most may think. I should also mention that I had not seen one single person wash their hands at any point during our time there. While the burgers were cooking, she asked us what we would like on them - however it was without a smile or politeness. Getting to the point; our burgers were very over-done, and crisp on all the sides. The vegetables were clearly a day old - and the mayo had that very old crust around the side of the container. Gross. To top it all off, as we were attempting to eat the food - I saw the son return to the cooking area after eating, where he began cleaning some of the surfaces. After wiping the counters with "All Purpose Cleaner" he then sprayed the grill where the food was cooked with the same cleaner. That's scary. Why did we eat the food after seeing all that? Because it was nearly $30 for two combos. Extremely overpriced for the quality of the food we received. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Big Tex's. It's unfortunate to see a great burger spot fail in the matter of weeks due to their new owners. If you're interested in a good burger, we recommend trying out "Carl Jr.'s" at Waterloo Town Square - it's become our new place to go. Extremely, Extremely disappointed. Great Burger joint with an interesting menu selection including burgers topped with beef brisket, pulled pork and chili. Ingredients are fresh, plenty of options and the servings are large (both the burger and the sides). Expect to spend around 13 bucks for a combo though (9 for the burger alone)
