Heaven Gastro Club - Waterloo, Ontario

Went this evening for "Paint Night" with a friend. Went early to have dinner. The place looks nice and our waitress was friendly . She advised us they were out of three different things right away. I ordered Poached Pear Salad with the addition of steak. She came back and ... said they were out of poached pears so I asked to have it with the roasted beets from another salad instead. She brought it out and told me then that they are out of steak! I told her it would have been nice if she had told me that before then and she said she didn't know. Really? The kitchen doesn't communicate things like that to the staff when they order it? So instead of a poached Pear Salad with blue cheese mousse and blue cheese crumbles,walnuts,cranberries and steak, I got mixed greens with a few pieces of roasted beets,walnuts and cranberries. So disappointing. My friend didn't care for her chimichonga and the other ladies we met while painting were all saying how their lamb burger was dry or the burrito bowl wasn't good. Although my salad was comped, I would have no reason to return. The washrooms needed attention ad well,two stalls didn't lock,one that did lock had no paper and the hand dryer was disgusting. Their 3.99 breakfast is huge and delicious. You choose from bacon, sausage or ham. They also give 3 eggs instead of 2 like at Mel's. They definitely deserve more business.

Had a great breakfast on Saturday morning here, $3.99 for 3 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, toast, potatoes, and an orange slice. Great deal and a friendly waiter!

Went with a large group, drinks were good food was NOT. My fish was super fishy and not fresh at all. I did not finish my first nor eat my second piece. Crab cakes slimey and weird but we finished them. 1/12 finished meals 11/12 people shared the opinion that it just ... wasnt good food Service was good, our waitress did a good job of taking care of our large table. Spent some time on their patio this summer. They revamped their menu in the Fall; I no longer understand why they call it "Gastro" - for example the wings, which were interesting flavours, are now identical to all other wing places. Oh well. They do at least still have interesting ... beers, so I guess that's worth three stars. If they bring back the interesting menu, I'll gladly revise my review! Read more
