Had the most wonderful evening at Stage. Delicious food from starter to mains, with the portion size of the mains being far more generous than expected. The wine list is the best we’ve encountered in town and our server was very knowledgable and helped us select a bottle that matched our ... tastes. The cherry on top (apart from the expertly crafted cocktails at the end of the night) was the service. Our servers were kind, helpful, attentive, relaxed and very good at their jobs. So glad this European & Natural Wine Bar / French Bistro is in my cozy Fernwood neighbourhood. It is a Victoria must. Happy hour 4-6 is such a great deal but the French-inspired food is well priced, in general. Also generally open late. Check hours as they change with the ... season. Best Burgers & Fries ever, but also the hand made pasta, beef tartar & steak are go-to’s. The veggie dishes are always made from the most local and fresh ingredients. The bread is freshly baked and comes with rotating, European cheeses. The staff go above and beyond, every single time, and the owner & the chef are always offering creative long table events. If you aren’t impressed by their ever-changing wine list, which includes low intervention and natty wines among other European and local winemaker stars, they have amazing cocktails. Our new favourite spot. We will be coming back here on default from now on. My partner and I have just moved to Victoria from Europe. We work in the industry and Stage came recommended by my partner's colleague. It did not disappoint! There was a brilliant selection on the menu, great ... to see so many different influences from around the world (eg. Mackerel and spicy sambal, or the steelhead fillet with homemade XO sauce and trout roe, or the asparagus, Comte and lovage...). Right up our street and everything hit the spot. Especially the oxtail croquettes we ordered to start... *Chef's kiss* The menu is designed for sharing. We had 2 small and 3 main dishes between the 2 of us. Honestly I could have gone for an extra course because everything was so delicious... But we did have room for pudding. The ice creams were good but I'd go for the extra savoury dish next time! Our server, Claire, was fab. They had great knowledge of the menu, especially the wine list (which is extensive), and made some delicious recommendations. The atmosphere was wicked, reminding me of being back in Soho, London. My friend and I came for dinner on Tuesday evening and absolutely loved it. The food was tasty and the vibes were great. Service was on the slow side, but our server was very friendly and knowledgeable (we had lots of questions) so we didn’t mind. Definitely will be coming ... back! Read more
