Ocean Garden Restaurant - Victoria, British Columbia

First visit to this restaurant, and I will say I WON’T DINE HERE AGAIN! When we entered, we greeted them with a smile and asked for a table for two. We requested a seat near the window (where a vacant table was available but not yet cleaned) because my friend has ... poor eyesight. An apprentice boy overheard our request and offered to clean it so we could take our preferred seat. We were willing to wait; however, the rude lady taking orders told him to continue what he was doing and insisted we sit at the back where the lighting was dim. I let it slide because I was already hungry and didn't have the energy to argue. We ordered a meal for two, which was surprisingly served in about 5 minutes. I'll commend their sweet and sour lemon chicken , which was delicious, but their wonton soup tasted bland, like water. I had to add pepper and salt to it. I ordered shrimp but was served chicken instead, so I asked for a replacement. Their chop suey looked like sautéed celery. Overall, their service was poor, and the food was not delightful. Read more

We were so lucky to go to Chinatown and find this wonderful Chinese restaurant. The food was perfect. We have missed having some good Chinese food. The place was clean and the staff was there for us. We received a pot of Chinese tea to enjoy. The food came out ... hot and fresh. The beef was tender and the pork dumplings in the soup were delicious. We had a pleasant hour dining here. Read more

We ordered a set meal for 2. It came really quick (within 5 minutes), which made me think that it's not freshly cooked. But it all tasted amazing except for the fried pork, which was a bit bland. The staff were not rude, they were all about taking orders and getting ... customers out. This is not specific to this restaurant, I've been to many Chinese restaurants in England, USA, and Canada, and for the most part, they are all the same. First visit in Victoria’s Chinatown area and we won’t be dining here ever again. Hostess was an older chinese woman who was more angry rather than happy to accommodate a big group just because we didn’t make a reservation. Don’t order their hot&sour soup, tastes bland. The biggest shock of ... all was their deep fried wonton. Paid $13.95 just to eat a platter of wonton wrapper! The meat filling was pathetic just smeared on the wonton and fried. DON'T GO THERE !!! The food taste disgusting, especially the soup.
