The Octagon - Vaughan, Ontario

I’ve dined here from time to time and enjoyed the food and atmosphere, service was never consistent, some times I received excellent service and very few time I received unpleasant service. Menu options are great. Good steak options Love the French onion soup. Love the steaks. But the hearted chicken is not ... my favourite, besides who orders anything other than steak in a steak focused restaurant? Last time I was there I felt that our table was rushed to order. Husband and I went here for our post-wedding dinner. For appetizers, husband ordered the lobster bisque and it was absolutely delicious! I got the crab cakes and they were also pretty good. For our mains we both got steaks - the steaks were amazing! Definitely the highlight of our meal. ... Well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. I enjoyed my garlic mash but my husband’s fries came out later than his steak so he couldn’t enjoy it. He ended up not eating much of it 🙁 The service was okay. Everyone was nice but we didn’t really feel welcomed or it didn’t feel warm (not sure if that makes sense). The servers were looking around the room whenever they were taking our orders or asked us if everything was okay. They all looked distracted and distant. Really cool place. Mahogany, stained glass. Excellent service. Drinks, food all very much world class. If I had to quibble with something, it would be the wine by the glass selection, which was ridiculously poor. Also, in a place like this, I'd expect my wine to come to the table ... in its original bottle and to be poured into a glass that doesn't look like it came from Walmart. Read more

I thought the food would be better. I may have had high expectations for this restaurant, but I went to the keg 2 weeks ago and my steak tasted better there. Went with a group of 10. Enjoyed how they make the salad in front of you and ... the Spanish coffee after dinner. Had to wait for a waiter a couple of times to get new drinks. I was surprised at how expensive it was for the ‘market value’ seafood. In particular the crab legs and lobster tail when we got our bill. One of my friends loves baked potatoes and was disappointed with his. He didn’t eat it. All in all, it was an experience. Everyone had been wanting to try the restaurant for a long time but personally I don’t think it was worth the price we paid. Read more
