I think they might have changed their chef from my last visit couple years ago as food taste & quality was very low. On top of that they will charge 10% mandatory tip for dine-in, I guess to offset the 10% cash discount on takeout orders. Portions were very small ... also, shrunk from previous years. Hot & sour soup wasn’t spicy only very salty. Noodles were so bland, I’ve had better Maggi than this. chilli chicken was ordered extra spicy only for it to be not spicy at all either. Dumplings looked & tasted like it was bought frozen from No Frills, just heated and served. Won’t be returning. Many many better options available around for Hakka. Read more

This is my first bad review.. that’s how disappointed I am. I used to come to royal jade a few times a year over a few years about 5 years ago. I came here because they had really good halal food, with affordable prices. No complaints. I stopped once I ... moved to downtown Toronto. I was recently in the area and decided to (excitedly) drop by and have an old favourite. Prices had increased exponentially (normal-inflation is affecting everyone so I wasn’t too disappointed or deterred). What surprised me was the portions have become significantly smaller. It was mostly sauce and barely any beef (and the sauce wasn’t even thick, it was watery! Imagine salted water.. it was pretty gross). The beef itself tasted like it hadn’t been marinated or seasoned with anything. Tip was automatically added to the bill, even though they hadn’t mentioned this anywhere.. my guess is no one in their right mind would tip for this food so they force your hand.. i paid 20$ for a few pieces of nasty, nasty beef and small portion of rice that was very sticky and mushy. I ALWAYS tip but I couldn’t get myself to tip something so underwhelming, which made me even more irritated when they forcefully took the tip anyway. Super disappointed. Not sure if the owners/cooks changed or if they just stopped caring but I feel really ripped off. I wrote this review a good week after I ate there.. I didn’t want to do it but it was simmering in my mind and I just couldn’t let go of the fact that I feel like they duped me. I really wouldn’t recommend anyone going here. Dishonest business. I ordered a lunch special for myself and my colleague here. The food tastes like they have not changed their cooking oil in ages. The spring roll had a bitter oil taste. The chow mein was okay, but had very little chicken and veggies, mostly rough shredded cabbage. The "home ... soup" resembled glue like substance that we could not bring ourselves to even try. I heard a lot about Royal Jade Hakka. It’s hidden gem. Everything is Halal. Their customer service is above n beyond. They guy was so friendly provided all the information on halal meat source that they deal with it. The food is fresh made from scratch. I ordered here ... few times. First time trying Hakka cuisine and enjoyed the experience! The staff were very friendly and attentive. Wish I remember what it's called but the deep fried veggie shrimp balls (?) were very tasty! Love the green sauce it was served with. The stir fry beef was too sweet for my ... liking but it's common for Chinese fusion in North America anyway so that's understandable. Recommended if you haven't tried Indian Chinese food! Read more
