Another great example of a once upon a time good restaurant lacking on their quality. Ordered garlic chicken dish which comes with white rice. Eating the white rice felt like we were chewing it raw. We didn't end up eating all the rice so we had some left over. The ... next day even after warming it up they felt even more harder. Almost as if they were uncooked. I felt I needed to soak them in water. White rice is the easiest thing to cook, so either the restaurant has gotten a very cheap rice supplier or someone just doesn't know how to cook white rice. I have been eating at island mix for years, from the days they started in Pickering. I definitely see the lack of attention to their food quality, not just from this dish but from many others. Had the sizzling beef and jerk chicken fried rice. I totally recommend the beef, it was fantastic. The fried rice was good too. Service is good as well. My biggest problem with this place was the very loud music, it was hard to communicate with the person across the table ... and depleted my social batteries a lot faster. Read more

Love coming here for their doubles and pholourie! The tamarind dip is my favorite. Tried the lamb and jerk samosas. They're excellent. Aneesa (hope i spelled that correctly) was our server and she was friendly and welcoming.

We've ordered for from here a few times and it's OK depending on what is ordered. Their strength is Chinese food and anything else is hit or miss. The Chinese food is good and the portions are ample. On the other hand, much better jerk chicken and oxtail can be ... had elsewhere from genuine Jamaican restaurants. Likewise the "Curry style" dishes and roti are better at genuine Trinidadian restaurants. The restaurant itself is nice and customer service is good and prices are reasonable. The food here is excellent!!! The sauces are hot and the mango scotch bonnet peppers one is to die for. The deep fried plantains, jerk chicken and the fried rice special come highl recommended. Portions are medium-to-large and prices are fair. The trouble is the service; the staff is courteous ... but they are severely short handed. Orders can usually take a full half hour to arrive. The food is worth the wait, but they need to up their game. Read more
