Came here based on some recommendations and it did not disappoint! We dined in on Saturday evening around 8 for a group of 5 and ordered the lobster and oyster feast. The restaurant was busy at this time so it's best to make reservations ahead. The lobster is typically around 7lbs but ... they didn't have any of that size and offered us an 8lb lobster instead with a $40 surcharge. The lobster was cooked 4 ways (steamed, garlic and ginger, deep fried salt and pepper and a lobster roe fried rice. The chefs were very thoughtful in their way of preparing the lobster so that you wouldn't need to spend too much effort to get the meat out. All the meat was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The deep fried lobster had a nice thin layer of batter and didn't feel oily. The oyster dish was deep fried and coated with salted duck yolk, I found this quite tasty. They added some deep fried vermicelli for some extra crunch. The beef dish was a little salty and definitely needed to be paired with the fried rice and pea shoot dishes. And to finish off the meal they had a purple rice with coconut dessert soup served with some mango mochi. The mango mochi was incredibly sweet and I wish they gave us more! With all the lobster and seafood places in Toronto, Omei does a fantastic job. They really highlight the food and focus less on the theatrics. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Cash and card are both accepted here. If you're a seafood lover, this is a place that shouldn't be missed! Read more
May/23: we came to Omei again for another celebration . Of course we had lobster and crab as part of the meal. Every was very tasty as usually. The service was excellent. And we rounded off the meal with their 4 deserts. Great place for a gathering with friends, very ... comfortable along with great food! Apr/23:My friends celebrated my birthday here last weekend. We had been at Omei many times a few years back and I decided to have dinner for my birthday, here this year. We ordered the lobster and crab dinner for 6. Plus ordered 4 additional dishes - extra 1/2 double boiled chicken, sweet and sour pork, garlic fried Chinese broccoli and steamed green bass. Overall the taste profiles were just right. Everything came hot and very flavourful. Steamed fish was just perfect and vegetables were very tender. And the chicken very moist and tasty. The tables were spaced nicely and the restaurant had been renovated. The service we received was attentive and friendly. Also the deserts were excellent. It was a great experience, I highly recommend coming here. Read more
It has been 3-4 years since k have even back to this restaurant. Was here with a several family and friends during the Chinese New Year period for dinner once. Overall we chose the 700-800 dinner package plus 6-7 serving of the soup for 12 as we had 7 adults 7 ... kids. Overall, the food has improved a lot. Lots of wok hei on the meals. The crab and lobster were done in several different dishes (steam, fried) and overall it was done very well. Everyone has a great time and the manager came over to greet all of us all after the dinner. Dessert is out of this world with multiple servings of mango mochi, purple rice sweet soup to choose from. The dishes did come a little slow but it was a hectic time during Chinese new year so it’s understandable. Would love again and great atmosphere like a typical Chinese restaurant of hustling and bustling. Hope to try the lunch dim sum menu next time Read more
Great location. Beautiful decorations. > Authentic Cantonese dimsum dishes. > Very nice service. > Very pricey & very pricey & very pricey. > Customer should ALWAYS check the bill vs dishes the servers bring out. Most the time they don’t match, meaning the dishes bring out are less than charged on bill. > Washroom cleanliness ... should be improved. We may return next year, to see if they improve. **** Thanks for reading the review **** Read more
Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts! The most fabulous post-humous photoshoot I've ever had the honour of participating in. The fresh lobster flesh was cooked superbly with a crisp, snappy texture. It had a subtle taste of wok hei with a savoury ginger scallion flavour and its carapace was quickly emptied. The ... lobster set menu also included steamed vancouver crab, soy sauce steamed bass, soy sauce chicken, maggi beef, garlic choy sum and complimentary daily soup and dessert, it was difficult to leave without being full.
