Reviews for MUI NGO GAI RESTAURANT in Vancouver, British Columbia
Love this restaurant so much. We just celebrated my mom’s birthday there and my mom loved it. I never tasted food so delicious before. Love the decor. The restaurant is so beautiful. The service was amazing too. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food is delicious. The restaurant is clean. The aesthetic is vibrant from the outside, cozy from the inside. Service was really good. Worth the higher price for sure. Recommend stir fry lemon grass chili chicken and the morning glory salad. I do not recommend the rare beef salad. Too ... chewy due to thickness for my preference. Read more
Fiancée and I won a giveaway and were very excited to try this place due to how good the pictures of the food looked online. Expect to pay $20+ for mains, $11+ for appies, and $5+ for drinks on the cheaper end of their menu. The atmosphere upon entering was ... very comfortable with dim lighting and light instrumental music playing. The only thing I thought was a bit over the top was the seating booths where there were very puffy cushions that were more decorative than functional (we ended up just pushing them aside to sit comfortably). Staff was very knowledgeable of the menu and answered all of our questions. Throughout the meal they checked in on us but were not intrusive and interrupting the flow of our dinner conversations. For food we ordered the shrimp and pork dumplings, papaya salad with tofu, crab vermicelli in soup, and pineapple fried rice to eat and Vietnamese iced coffee to drink. Not much to say about the iced coffee, it tasted good and it was what we expected it to be. Shrimp and pork dumplings were delicious, the spiced fish sauce to dip the dumplings in paired very nicely with the flavours inside of the dumplings. This was the best part of the meal and a must try. Papaya salad was very flavourful and refreshing and the shrimp chips were great for adding a bit of crunch. The tofu however was bland and did not soak up the flavour very well to balance out the dish. We ended up dipping the tofu in the same fish sauce as our dumplings just to add a bit of flavour and it actually tasted better. The crab vermicelli was the most disappointing dish of the meal. Once again there was tofu and it was bland. The broth didn't taste like crab and there was what seemed to be a ground meat which tasted more like pork than crab. The last dish was the pineapple fried rice. The only negative thing was there was squid rings and some sort of dried squid/fish on top which had an overpowering taste. Once we got through that, the dish was actually really good with balanced flavours. Overall, for the price some of the food might be better to get it elsewhere. I would recommend this place for the ambiance and service. Read more
WOW!!!! This has always been a favorite lunch spot for my family, as they have always served very healthy and authentic Vietnamese cuisine. But this was my first visit since they re-opened after an extensive remodel and revamp of the menu. It’s gorgeous and so cozy in here now! Very comfortable ... plush chairs and benches in gorgeous brocade, a whole new menu of authentic Singapore dishes in addition to upscale versions of my old favorites, new stereo and music jams to add ambiance, gourmet teas and drinks…I am blown away. This is taking a good restaurant to a whole new level of Date Night excellence. Highly recommended! Read more
I took advantage of their discount your age deal for summer birthdays and it was the best decision ever. This place expands the viet and sg food repertoire for Vancouver. There are too many pho restaurants and hawker style restaurants and it's nice to try other dishes. Banh bot loc ($15) - I ... love eating this type of dish but not a lot of places serve it. The dumplings here were quite tiny but the sauce was delicious. Tanghoon crab meat ($27) - quite a bit of crab meat here so that's good. The dish was quite flavorless though. I wouldn't order this again. Tiger prawns in chili crab sauce ($38) - Came with 8 big prawns in a giant bowl of sauce. Sauce was delicious and I got to take home a whole bowl of sauce to continue my feast at home! This was one dish I didn't get to try when I visited Singapore. Fried tilapia with tamarind sauce ($32) - probably my fav dish of this set. The fish was fried really well that everything was crispy. Tilapia doesn't have a lot of side bones so it's easy to eat. One thing I would recommend is that they leave the fins and tail on instead of cutting them off because those are the crunchiest parts. The sauce was delicious but I didn't taste too much tamarind. I would return for this dish. The service is good and I really like the servers attire. They refilled water and cleared plates regularly. The dishes came out quickly. The interior is beautiful. I am not sure whether the prices are sustainable for the customers. I saw the crabs and lobsters were $145/kg or $66/lb which is outstanding compared to anywhere else. The bun bo hue is $24 which is really expensive as well. I think I would like them to expand their menu to provide unique flavors like butter prawn and sambal stingray, and get rid of the dishes that many other restaurants provide already. Read more
