The sushi is not fresh at all!! Specially the sauce. The sauce for the eel sushi is too sweet. Very overpriced for the low quality.
I took out a few chef's special rolls off their vegan menu while making use of my Plant Curious coupon book (regular price $11.99 and $12.99 per roll). I was looking forward to trying the restaurant as I'm not close to the area. The rolls were standard in size, and ... each came with 8 pieces. Our group's favourite was the Mango Roll, followed by the Philly Smoked Salmon Roll. We thought the mango could've been riper, as you can see in the photo the pieces were quite firm (and with the King Veggie Roll, the mango strips on top aren't very yellow/orange). However, the mango sauce and soy skin added nice texture and a sweet flavour lacking from the actual mango. The carrot lox was a nice idea, but was lacking a smoky and salty flavour that we've had in other smoked salmon substitutes. Not sure what was in the 'crab cake,' but the filling was a good 'meaty' replacement. I was disappointed by the service. I was planning on using both of the 2 coupons I had as there wasn't overlap (one was buy 2 rolls and get 1 free, and the other was buy 2 rolls and get an appetizer free). I had indicated I'd be ordering 4 rolls to a staff member to no issue when I arrived, and they gave me the vegan menu. However, when I went to order, a male staffer said it wasn't allowed despite there being no indication on the actual coupon. Some other restaurants list restrictions directly on the coupon. While I understand that they have the final right to honour the deal, I've been able to use 2 coupons at every other establishment (providing they're not 'combined') I've tried with no issue or pushback. Other establishments have been happy for the business and for new patrons to try their food. Sushi Maro wouldn't change their mind on their "rules." That left a sour taste with me and given the food tried, I won't be returning to use the second coupon by its expiration in May. While I appreciate the vegan sushi options, there are improvements to be made to enhance the flavours of the ingredients used. Read more
It was good the food and service. Average range menu selection, there is indoor and outdoor patio area. Quite clean and nice decor. Good place to duck in for a quick meal in a busy area, was easy to find seats.
This place is just walking distance from the Yaletown skytrain station and beside the Starbucks. The service was attentive and very friendly throughout the whole experience. Restaurant has a patio which is nice to have in the summer. The food however was not the best. The udon was probably the best dish ... but the sushi was not that great unfortunately. The rice was very stale for all 5 dishes we ordered. Maybe just an off day? Giving them the benefit of the doubt here since the staff were friendly and attentive but I didn’t want to send the food back. If it was one dish I would have but all 4 dishes were like that. Maybe I will give them a shot again next time hoping quality will be better next time. Read more
Creative menu since houseroll is pretty special. However, rice was a little bit cold and dry, feel like old rice. Also service was 50-50 : main server who took my order was not really friendly but server assistant who clean up my plates is super friendly.
