Basil Pasta Bar - Vancouver, British Columbia

I need a pasta fill the day before the Vancouver marathon and this did the trick without breaking bank. A lot of options plus veg friendly options.

I had a fantastic experience trying the basil pasta at this restaurant. One of the things I loved the most was the opportunity to make my own pasta from scratch and add various ingredients to personalize it. The process was enjoyable and pleasant. The portion size was also quite generous, ... and since I hadn't had lunch that day, one meal for dinner was enough to satisfy my hunger. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy, and the photos on the wall evoke nostalgic memories from my childhood. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delightful dining experience. Decided to give this a try because it’s open late and near where I was working that evening. I really wanted to like it, but the execution was underwhelming. The environment was not the most comfortable either - there was an unpleasant smell that I noticed when I was standing ... at the register to order, which I could not detect from my table, and it was very chilly inside. The staff was friendly, though. I ordered the coconut cream ravioli without the chicken and a tiramisu. With the ravioli, I found the sauce to be pretty bland (even after adding black pepper and red pepper flakes), which is not what you expect or want from something called “curry cream” sauce. The garnishes of fresh basil and coconut flakes were missing, which was disappointing since some fresh herb would have contributed massively to the flavour. I had no problem with the ravioli and how they were cooked, but the asparagus were still a little fibrous. You can see into the kitchen, so I could watch them sauteeing the vegetables to order, but I would guess that most of what they use is either frozen or from a can because they did not taste fresh. The dish was not bad, and I liked that they used a lot of vegetables, but I felt like it fell short of what it could have been. It was $16.45 and a big portion, but I’m not sure if it was worth it for something that I know I could’ve made better at home without a ton of work. The tiramisu was fine (and also pretty big - I would actually want to share this if I was dining with someone else), but while the pasta for dine-in came in a plate, this came in a plastic takeout bowl with the lid on, and the cream on top stuck to the lid when I took it off. What’s pictured is my attempt to reconstruct it. It seems a shame to ruin the presentation like this when they could’ve just served it on a plate and kept it intact. If I give them another chance, I would order something with red sauce and see that's more to my liking. Read more

I’m visiting from the US. This restaurant was a treasure to find. You choose your pasta, your sauce, your protein, your vegetables and your topping. I choose Fettuccine, Alfredo, shrimp, zucchini, corn, spinach, mushrooms and Parmesan. Soooo good! I ordered to go so I don’t now about the atmosphere.

Used to go there a lot because it opens late. Ordered the takeout today, the pasta was missing spinach and looks like it has cheese inside as the noodles are stringy (I am dairy intolerance and did not ask for cheese). This is not the first time it happened but I ... decided to post today because the manager's attitude is just off. In the manager's own word, "this happens a lot to everyone and its normal. Bring the pasta back, and we can add more spinach inside... and the worst come to worst, we remake one." The manager just does not sound like she cares about the mistake an costing me the time to go back just for her to correct her own mistake. And the fact that she confirms it happens a lot.. I do not know how people who has allergy can eat here... I asked for the name of the manager so I can be more transparent with the review to post here. She (with an Indian accent) hung up the phone right after hearing that. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to go all the way back to confront the manager for a bowl of pasta I would avoid this place if you have allergy considering how often they make mistakes with that ingredients to put inside.
