Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna - Vancouver, British Columbia

A walk around my old neighborhood and didn’t see a line up and walked in and got seated within minutes. I recall having to line up for at least an hour to get seated at dinner time. Times have changed and so did the prices. Asked the server why the ... line ups are gone and he indicated likely inflation. Ice water came fast. Ordered the avgolemono and a small beef souvlaki. A bit of a wait but not unreasonable. Soup was less thicker than I remember and less oryzo than what I recall also. Lots of chicken bits and would have like a bit of acidity also. It used to be accompanied by lemon wedges. Pita was same as I remember. Quite good. Souvlaki was a generous size. Beef was at the right temperature and the Greek potatoes tasted different to me. This place had one of the best not too long ago. And Greek salad was decent but the proportions also seemed off to me. One of my favourites and used to be one of the best values for your money. Been ordering here since 2020 and every time they’ve knocked it out of the park. The roast lamb is incredible and a great amount of food for the value. I have been going to this restaurant for the last two decades, because it uses to owned by a Persian owner and the portion of the food is always a lot. I love the roast lamb and lamb chops because of the quality of the food and the portion of ... the meat I also like the side dishes like potatoes and Greek salad roasted vegetables. The house wine and beers are cheap and the environment the restaurant is very Eastern European Slovakian which makes you take a brake from nasty Davie st! Read more

We LOVE going there, visited the first time several years ago, and it's our go-to place for Greek frood in downtown Vancouver. Food is delicious, and the roasted lamb is exquisite. Prices are fair for the food and service. You won't be disappointed.

For me this is place filled with cherished memories that draw me back from time to time. It's like stepping into a time capsule, where everything has remained unchanged for years, preserving the essence of past visits. Granted, the experience can fluctuate depending on their busyness and other factors, and ... while not everything is perfect, the fond recollections from previous visits tend to overshadow any shortcomings. Our latest visit was quite pleasant, and I'm hopeful this place will continue to stand the test of time, waiting to welcome us back on our next trip down memory lane, be it in 4-5 years or whenever the opportunity arises.
