Reviews for Restaurant Yugo in Vancouver, British Columbia
Came here with my partner and a friend from out of town for an early dinner. The staff were very friendly, and the restaurant has a nice vibe. The menu is quite large and there are some nice selections. They have a good variety of non-alcoholic beverages. The presentation of ... all the dishes were BEAUTIFUL. I particularly enjoyed the Snow White roll because it was a great mix of flavours and aromas. Despite the beautiful presentation of some of the other dishes, the aromas and flavours fell short for me. It was mostly the sashimi that looked great, but didn't have much of a fresh fish scent or taste. The amount of food was enough for our party; we had ordered 4 small plates, 2 mains, and 3 drinks. It is on the pricey side for what you get though. Read more
My wife and I dined atYugo with our friends in Vancouver. For my own personal preference and taste, I would say the sushi was quite creative, but taste was just okay. The sashimi was nicely presented with creative sauce, it was not bad but the freshness can be ... better. The karaage and the desert were good :) Read more
A decent option for premium Japanese cuisine with some French influences! The best thing about the restaurant is the ambiance. It's classy but understated, and I was able to enjoy an elevated dining experience. Service was decent too, as the staff were prompt and polite. My food arrived quickly and my tea ... was refilled without me having to ask. The food was fine, and I'm sure that other items on the menu would have been even better. I ordered the Chicken Karaage and Kamikaze roll. The Kamikaze roll was flavourful and the portion was reasonable. The Karaage on the other hand was oily and hard to eat. The batter soaked up the grease and I found it to be quite overwhelming. The prices are high and I ordered the cheaper items on the menu. Definitely not a place you can visit often. Read more
I’ve been here several times, and in my opinion, it’s the only restaurant I’ve been to that combines Eastern and Western food successfully (Japanese and French food in this case)! Every time we eat here, we have a great time and the food is always delicious! Service was amazing and quick, ... environment was relaxing and not fancy, and food, as always, was perfect and delicious! The miso soup is my favourite, and I highly recommend it. The beef tongue doesn’t suit my taste, but the salads are amazing! The uni pasta is okay. The foie gras don is the best thing I’ve ever had! Their mochi and black sesame dessert was incredible too! The mochi was still warm when it came out, and it was super chewy. The ice cream tasted good as well, and the two balanced each other nicely. Out of all their desserts, I loved the Jasmine tea crème brûlée they had last year! Please bring that back :). Read more
We ordered hamachi oshi aburi, which was so soft that it was almost impossible to lift with chopsticks without it falling apart. The important thing about making sushi rice balls (shari nigiri) is that they shouldn’t fall apart before reaching your mouth, and once in your mouth, the sushi rice ... should spread gently. I don’t think they applied the right amount of pressure so that a hollow forms in the center of the rice. The sushi rice balls tasted a little too sour, maybe because of too much vinegar. The $16 ebimayo only came with 4 shrimps, and it just tasted like fried shrimp. The food was okay but had no wow factor. The Unagi Tempura was definitely interesting. It was placed on bread with cucumber. I found it an interesting combination and it tasted good. I had the Foie Gras Don, and that was my favorite. The rice tasted so good with a nice amount of sauce, and there were 2 pieces of Foie Gras for $33 (large). Read more
