Bistro Pastis - Vancouver, British Columbia

I overall enjoyed my meal at Bistro Patis, although things weren't as amazing as I was expecting. I came here during lunch for Dine Out Vancouver. Appetizer: I got the paté, perhaps I'm just not familiar with french cuisine, as the pate was pressed into a hard-ish slice similiar to ... sliced spam instead of a soft spreadable paté. The toasted bread it was served with was quite hard. However the side salad was very good. Main: got the black peppercorn steak and frites which was very good, good portion size and the steak was cooked very well. Dessert: Creme brulé (I believe earl grey flavoured). Friendly waiters (they didn't speak French though) but the food and the desert were very good. I didn't feel it was expensive

Quite nice inside, very cozy environment for a chat. Standard tasty french food, and a great wine list. Reccommended for a casual dinner or fancy brunch.

Had a great experience at Bistro Pastis. It's traditional French cuisine, in a traditional environment. Very classy atmosphere, light music in the background, well-thought through menu and most importantly perfect execution of delicious dishes. Note, this restaurant is not reinventing the wheel, instead you will know what ... you get while still being surprised by the creativity, in short, it's a delight to eat here. Not surprisingly, this experience comes with a price, but frankly the quality of food and extensive wine menu, combined with attentive yet non intrusive staff will make you want to come back. The atmosphere was cozy, though unfortunately a little loud with the car traffic since it's right on west 4th. Though the restaurant was a little bit on the pricier side as each entree was around $25.00+ , it's worth coming to try at least once. The service was attentive and ... our server was excellent. He came to ask us how our dishes were after each course. Our glasses were also never left more than half empty. He also patiently explained to us what each of the daily specials were and was very knowledgeable with the menu. Read more
