Burgoo - Vancouver, British Columbia

This isn’t my first time dining at Burgoo. I mean, a place dedicated to comfort food? Why am I not here more often? During Christmastime, we found ourselves shopping along West 4th Avenue and needing nourishment and respite from the cold weather. Burgoo was the perfect place for us to stop ... by. We dined in their enclosed patio which was pleasantly bright and airy. I ordered the Beef Bourguignon ($18) with French Onion Soup ($11.50) and I was very pleased with both dishes. The bourguignon was meaty with red wine braised beef and I just love those little pearl onions. It just doesn’t get much cheesier than their French Onion Soup. Each spoonful will bring you an ample cheese pull. My only complaint about this soup is that there didn’t seem to be as much onions in the soup as I hoped for. I found that the Chicken Pot Pie ($17.50) puff pastry was difficult to break through without using a knife. Similarly, the chunks of chicken inside the pie were a bit too large and required a knife to cut down. I would have enjoyed this more if the chicken pieces were cut smaller and if the puff pastry was a more delicate and flaky variety. Really good comfort food. Service was good and were very nice. I ordered the chicken pot pie and beef bourguigon. Both dishes were incredibly tasty. Beef was a little on the tough side but the chicken was tender and favlorful. The food was not incredibly salty. This is overall a great place. I went there twice. For the second time, I order soup and sandwich, at it literally took them 40 mins to bring the orders, and there were not too many people. Comfort food in a cozy restaurant. Does get busy in the day even on the weekdays at this location. There is street parking with meters in the front but limited as this is the busy 4th avenue area with lots of stores and shops. We visited here a couple of months ago after a nice walk along the False Creek seawall and when it started to rain we decided to stop by at "Burgoo" for lunch. It was our first time here and had fairly high hopes it would be decent. The interior was ... very nice and welcoming. The staff was friendly and the food was good. I was debating whether to have one of their soups and a sandwich/salad or something more hearty. I decided to have the Chicken Pot Pie, my friend had the French Onion Soup with the Gooey Cheese Grillers and a salad on the side. The chicken pot pie didn't look all that big when it was served to me, but ones you get under the flaky crust there was tons of yummy white chicken meat and I must say that it was very filling. Looks were very deceiving in this case! The service was very good, the food was very good and we enjoyed it very much. The prices were reasonable as well. Our server was very friendly and took plenty of time out for our wishes and chit chat. We will be back again in the future. Read more
